Utah Motorcycle Shipping

Utah's biggest metro areas sit along one strip, the Wasatch Front, where I-15 links Provo, Salt Lake City and Ogden. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. Pickups in that strip are the simple ones. The red rock country around Moab is farther from the interstate corridor, and the far south around St. George sits at the southern end of I-15 in Utah, so plan for more time there. If you want to ship a motorcycle to or from Utah, your pickup city decides most of the cost and how fast it goes. Utah motorcycle shipping from the Salt Lake area tends to be quick, and from the canyon country you plan on a little patience. Prices below are estimates, nothing more. What Happens When You Ship a Motorcycle to Utah

Salt Lake City is where it all starts. Trailers coming from Southern California arrive on I-15, those from farther up the West Coast can come in on I-80 through Nevada, and those from Colorado use I-70 and I-15 or I-80 through Wyoming. Los Angeles to Salt Lake City is about 690 miles, $425 to $600 on an open trailer, and the bike spends 2 to 5 days on the road. Las Vegas to Salt Lake City is only about 420 miles at $375 to $500.

Provo, Orem, Ogden and the suburbs in between are all along I-15, so a driver is rarely far from the interstate. Up in the canyon neighborhoods and ski towns the roads are steeper and narrower. Park City sits about 32 miles southeast of Salt Lake City at nearly 7,000 feet, surrounded by steep mountains, so ask the carrier where it can park a trailer.

St. George is its own market. It sits right on the Arizona line on I-15 and is Utah's fifth-largest city. Salt Lake City to St. George is about 300 miles, $350 to $475, 1 to 3 days. Moab, a base for red rock riding, is a 350-mile haul from Denver at $350 to $475.

Look at the California to Utah, Nevada to Utah and Washington to Utah lanes if you are bringing a bike in.

What you pay depends on the haul. Las Vegas to Salt Lake City is about $375 to $500 on an open trailer, and Los Angeles to Salt Lake City about $425 to $600. At 1,000 miles expect about $500 to $675, and at 1,500 miles about $600 to $850. Longer trips cost less per mile.

Upgrading to enclosed adds 30% to 50%. A crate costs $150 to $400 more, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a touring bike often another $50 to $100. The table lists lanes that start or end in Utah. Each price is for a stock bike on an open trailer, and days are counted from pickup. Scheduling adds one to three more.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Utah lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Utah. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Utah by Way of the Wasatch Front

Leaving Utah is mostly a matter of choosing the right highway. Bikes going west take I-80 across the Bonneville Salt Flats and Nevada. Those headed south run I-15 through St. George. Eastbound trailers take I-80 across Wyoming or I-70 across Colorado.

Salt Lake City to Los Angeles is about 690 miles and $425 to $600. Salt Lake City to Dallas runs about $550 to $750, 3 to 6 days. Provo to Chicago is around 1,415 miles at $575 to $800, 3 to 6 days.

If you know your date, get quotes early, since a carrier already running your lane can offer a better pickup window. The Utah to Nevada run and the Utah to Colorado run are the shorter hauls.

Utah Motorcycle Transport on I-15, I-80 and the I-70 Desert

I-15 is about 400 miles in Utah, from the Arizona line near St. George to the Idaho line near Portage. It passes Cedar City, Provo, Salt Lake City and Ogden. Through Salt Lake City, I-15 and I-80 share about 3 miles of pavement near downtown.

I-70 is the unusual one. It starts at I-15 near Cove Fort, runs about 232 miles through central Utah, and crosses the San Rafael Swell on the way to Colorado. It also climbs over the Wasatch Plateau at Emigrant Pass, 7,886 feet, the highest point of any Interstate in Utah. The stretch between Salina and Green River is about 104 miles with no services directly on the highway, which one source calls the longest such gap in the Interstate system. A pickup near there is a long way from anything.

I-80 runs west from Salt Lake City across the Bonneville Salt Flats to Wendover on the Nevada line, and northeast through Parleys Canyon to the Wyoming line near Evanston. I-84 covers about 117 miles in Utah, from the Idaho line near Snowville to I-80 at Echo, and shares I-15 through Brigham City and Ogden.

Motorcycle Shipping to Utah by Season

Winter is the hard season. Snow can close canyon roads and slow traffic on I-15 along the Wasatch Front, and I-70 climbs to 7,886 feet over the Wasatch Plateau. If your bike is going to Salt Lake City, Park City or any mountain town in winter, give the schedule a few extra days.

Summer is hot in the south. St. George averages a July high of about 102 degrees, so a bike left sitting in the sun gets hot.

Prices follow demand. Peak weeks cost more, and fall and winter are often cheaper outside snowbird lanes.

Bonneville and the Utah Riding Calendar

Bonneville Speed Week is the headline. The Southern California Timing Association runs it on the Bonneville Salt Flats, about 120 miles west of Salt Lake City, from late July into early August, and the nearest town is Wendover on the Nevada line. A separate Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials event follows in late August.

If you plan to send a bike or a race machine to the salt, say what it is when you request quotes. A heavily modified or race-prepared bike can change the price, and some carriers want to know before they quote it. A crate can add $150 to $400.

Heading from Utah to Sturgis? I-80 runs east from Salt Lake City into Wyoming, the direction you want. Book a few weeks ahead when you can.

Hill Air Force Base and Military Shipping

Hill Air Force Base, just south of Ogden, is the main installation along the Wasatch Front. Get quotes the day you have a report date and ask each carrier whether it gives a military or multi-bike discount. Some do, some do not.

Utah Shipping Hurdles and How to Clear Them

Snow, distance from the freeway and long empty roads cause most of the delay.

Wasatch Winter

Canyon snow and storms on I-15 and I-70 can slow trucks. Allow slack in winter.

The I-70 Gap

About 104 miles between Salina and Green River have no services directly on I-70. Pickups near there depend on a driver who is already passing.

Mountain Town Streets

Park City and some canyon neighborhoods can be steep and narrow. Ask the driver where to meet.

Tip: Price Moab Early

Southern and eastern Utah pickups may cost more or take longer. Ask about Moab or St. George first, then compare the quotes.

Tip: Say What the Bike Is

Salt flats racers and customs are not standard bikes. Tell carriers up front so the quote matches the job.

Tip: Winterize the Details

Cold nights can drain a battery. Keep the tank near a quarter full, check the charge and photograph everything. The prep guide covers what else to do.

Utah Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Utah?

Las Vegas to Salt Lake City is about $375 to $500 on an open trailer, Los Angeles to Salt Lake City about $425 to $600, and Chicago to Salt Lake City about $575 to $800. Enclosed adds roughly 40%.

How long does it take to ship a bike from Utah to California?

Salt Lake City to Los Angeles is about 690 miles and takes 2 to 5 days on the road. Add one to three days to schedule the pickup.

Can a carrier deliver to Park City or Moab?

Usually yes, with limits. Park City's steep roads may mean meeting the driver lower down, and Moab is far from the main corridor, so quotes may run higher and take longer.

Does winter weather delay shipments in Utah?

It can. Snow can close canyon roads and slow trucks on I-15 and I-80, and I-70 climbs to 7,886 feet over the Wasatch Plateau. Plan on a few extra days in winter.

Can I ship a bike to Bonneville Speed Week?

Yes. Speed Week runs from late July into early August on the Bonneville Salt Flats, west of Salt Lake City. Tell the carrier if the bike is a racer or a crated build, and book several weeks ahead.

What is the I-70 stretch carriers talk about?

Between Salina and Green River on I-70 there are about 104 miles without services directly on the highway. A pickup near there is a long way off the main route, so quotes can reflect that.

Do I have to be present at pickup?

Usually. You or someone you name signs the inspection form at pickup and again at delivery. Look the bike over each time before you sign.

Is open or enclosed better for Utah?

Open works for most bikes. Enclosed makes sense for a classic, custom paint or a winter haul where salt and slush on the roads worry you.
