Wyoming Motorcycle Shipping

Wyoming is mostly open country, three interstates run through it, and wind has more say over a truck here than traffic does. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. I-80 runs about 403 miles across the south, I-25 comes up from Colorado through Cheyenne and Casper to Buffalo, and I-90 clips the northeast corner on its way to South Dakota. If you need to ship a motorcycle to or from Wyoming, most of the work is choosing the right pickup town, because Wyoming motorcycle shipping to a place like Jackson or Cody is a different job from a delivery in Cheyenne, and carriers price them that way. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Use the quote form at the top of this page or call 1-800-590-6492 at any hour.

Ship a Motorcycle to Wyoming, by Interstate or by Back Road

Look at where your delivery address sits relative to the three interstates. Cheyenne, Laramie, Rawlins and Rock Springs are on I-80. Casper, Douglas and Buffalo are on or near I-25, and Gillette and Sheridan are on I-90. A town on one of those roads is easy. A town off them, and Wyoming has plenty, means a longer last leg and a meeting point.

Jackson is the hard one. It is far from any interstate, and the roads in are US 26, 89 and 191. Salt Lake City to Jackson is about 270 miles and runs roughly $325 to $450 open, a 1-3 day trip. Cheyenne to Jackson is about 430 miles at $375 to $500. Say which side of the state you are on when you ask for quotes, because a Jackson address and a Cheyenne address are very different jobs for a carrier.

Most bikes coming in arrive from Colorado, so Denver to Cheyenne, about 100 miles and $300 to $400, is the short one carriers run constantly. Casper gets a lot of Texas and Midwest traffic. Chicago to Casper is about 1,060 miles at $500 to $700 open, and Seattle to Jackson is about 850 miles at $450 to $650.

Helpful starting points: Colorado to Wyoming, Illinois to Wyoming and Washington to Wyoming.

Wyoming Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

For a standard bike on an open trailer, plan on about $375 to $525 for a trip of around 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles, and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Short hops cost more per mile: Denver to Cheyenne is about 100 miles at $300 to $400, so it is not much cheaper than a 430-mile trip to Jackson at $375 to $500.

Closed trailers cost roughly 30% to 50% more. A crate adds about $150 to $400, a trike or sidecar about $150 to $300, and a heavy touring bike $50 to $100. The table lists lanes carriers run in and out of Wyoming. It assumes a standard bike on open transport, with transit counted in days on the road after pickup. Scheduling adds one to three days on top. Longer hauls cost less per mile, so a 2,000-mile trip from Wyoming to the coast stays well under four times the price of a 500-mile one.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Wyoming lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Wyoming. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Wyoming Without Waiting a Week

Cheyenne is the best pickup in the state, because I-25 and I-80 cross there. If you live in the southeast corner and can get the bike to Cheyenne, a pickup at a big-town address is simpler for everyone. Denver is only about 100 miles to the south, so Colorado carriers reach Cheyenne in an afternoon.

Casper sends bikes south, since I-25 runs straight down to Denver and the Texas lanes beyond. Casper to Dallas is about 1,050 miles, with open rates of $500 to $700 and a 3-6 day transit. Gillette heads east toward Minnesota: Gillette to Minneapolis is about 710 miles and $425 to $600 open. Jackson to Los Angeles is about 940 miles at $475 to $675, and a 2-5 day transit. Short trips inside the state, like Cheyenne to Jackson, are priced as real hauls.

The pickup window matters more here than in most states. Towns are far apart, and a driver may only pass a smaller place a few times a week. Give a window of several days, and offer a meeting point near the interstate if your address is out in the country.

Planning to ride Sturgis from Wyoming? Casper to Sturgis is one of the shorter hauls, quoted at roughly $325 to $450 open. Lanes worth a look: Wyoming to Colorado and Wyoming to California.

Wyoming Motorcycle Transport on I-80, I-25 and I-90

By length, I-80 is the big one at about 403 miles, from Evanston on the Utah line to Pine Bluffs at Nebraska. It passes Green River, Rock Springs, Rawlins, Laramie and Cheyenne, and tops out at Sherman Summit in the Laramie Mountains. I-25 is about 301 miles, from the Colorado line to Buffalo. I-90 adds about 209 miles in the northeast. I-25 is the link that joins I-80 to I-90, so a bike going from Cheyenne to Gillette or Sheridan rides it north to Buffalo and then turns onto I-90.

The stretch carriers worry about is the 77 miles between Rawlins and Laramie on I-80. It sees winter closures, and WYDOT has proposed rerouting traffic along US 30 because of them. Wind is the other trouble. In high wind WYDOT has closed I-80 to light, high-profile vehicles, as it did between Otto Road near Cheyenne and Elk Mountain in October 2020, and light trucks can end up waiting at an exit until the wind drops.

The Beartooth Highway has a Wyoming stretch too, but it is a rider's road and not a freight route, and carriers stay on the interstates. For pickups in Cody or along US 14, 16 and 20, expect to meet the driver in Cody itself or in Sheridan.

Motorcycle Shipping to Wyoming by Season

Winter here is long and not predictable. Snow and wind can close I-80 or hold trucks at the exits, and a bike shipped between November and March should have a wide delivery window. Spring storms are real, too, so an April date is not safe.

Summer is when the roads fill. Yellowstone and Grand Teton bring traffic to Cody and Jackson, and early August brings Sturgis riders, some of whom pass through Cody. Wyoming Highway Patrol has announced extra patrols in western and northwestern Wyoming for rally week, and prices on busy lanes run higher. Book three weeks ahead if your dates are fixed.

Fall is the sweet spot for shipping. Trailers have more room once the rally is over, and quotes outside snowbird lanes often run lower. Wind does not care about the season, so keep the pickup window loose. A bike that has been in storage should have fresh fuel and a charged battery before the driver shows up.

Sturgis Season Across Wyoming

Wyoming's biggest motorcycle event is the one it does not host. Each year in early August, riders pour into Wyoming on their way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. Cody has felt the traffic, and the same riders head back the same way after the rally.

A Highway Patrol supervisor in Cody once said the rally traffic brings more accidents, and Wyoming Highway Patrol asks drivers to watch for motorcycles. That is a good reason to give a carrier extra time on I-90 and US 14, 16 and 20 in early August.

If you want to send a bike to the rally, quote three weeks early and compare prices for open and enclosed. Tell the carrier whether the bike should go to Sturgis itself or to a town nearby such as Rapid City, and what day you will land. Rally week is not the time to improvise a delivery spot. See our Sturgis page, or look at the Wyoming to South Dakota lane.

Military Moves to and From Wyoming

F.E. Warren Air Force Base is in Cheyenne, which makes the interstate junction a convenient pickup for anyone moving on orders. Cheyenne to Denver is a short run, and trucks leave Denver for the coasts and the Midwest. Get quotes as soon as you have a report date, and ask each carrier whether it offers a military or multi-bike discount. Give a window of a few days, because wind and snow on I-80 can push a schedule by a day. If you are leaving the state on orders, ship the bike a few days before you fly out, and leave a spare key with someone who can hand it to the driver.

Wyoming Shipping Challenges and Tips

Wind, snow and distance cause the delays. Three habits cut the risk.

Wind on I-80

In high wind WYDOT has closed I-80 to light, high-profile vehicles between Otto Road and Elk Mountain. Trucks with light loads may wait it out.

Rawlins to Laramie in Winter

The roughly 77-mile stretch of I-80 between Rawlins and Laramie sees winter closures. A winter delivery can slip by a day or more.

Far From Anywhere

Jackson, Cody and the small towns sit far from the interstates. Expect the driver to propose a meeting place in a bigger town.

Tip: Say Which Side of the State

Jackson is on US 26, 89 and 191, far from the interstates. Cheyenne is on I-25 and I-80. Tell the carrier where your address is, not just the state.

Tip: Leave Wind Slack in the Schedule

If your delivery date is firm, ask for a pickup a few days early so one wind hold does not break the plan.

Tip: Strip the Bike

Pull loose bags and electronics and take dated photos from every angle. Our prep guide lists the rest.

Wyoming Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Wyoming?

Open transport for a standard bike runs about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles, and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Seattle to Jackson, about 850 miles, is $450 to $650. Enclosed adds roughly 40%.

How long does it take to ship a bike from Chicago to Casper?

Chicago to Casper is about 1,060 miles and usually takes 3 to 6 days on the road after pickup. Add one to three days for scheduling, so plan on roughly a week from first call to the bike arriving in Casper.

Can I ship a motorcycle to Jackson?

Yes, but Jackson is far from any interstate. The roads in are US 26, 89 and 191. Salt Lake City to Jackson is about 270 miles and $325 to $450 open. Mention Jackson by name when you ask for quotes.

Does wind or snow delay shipments in Wyoming?

Yes, at times. WYDOT has closed I-80 to light, high-profile vehicles in high wind near Elk Mountain, and the stretch between Rawlins and Laramie sees winter closures. Give the carrier a wide window and expect a day or two of slack in winter, and ask how the driver handles weather holds.

Can I send a bike to Sturgis from Wyoming?

Yes. Casper to Sturgis is a short haul, roughly $325 to $450 open and 1 to 3 days. The rally falls in early August, when carriers fill up, so get quotes about three weeks ahead and give a pickup window.

Should I pick open or enclosed for Wyoming?

Open works for most bikes. Enclosed is worth the extra if the bike has show paint, or if the trip crosses I-80 in winter, where wind and snow can close the road. Ask for both quotes so you can see the gap.

Do I have to be there when the driver comes?

Someone 18 or older must sign the inspection report when the bike is loaded and again when it is dropped off. In thin parts of the state, agree on a meeting spot with the driver ahead of time.

What if the bike will not start?

Tell the carrier on the quote form. A non-running bike is winched onto the trailer and some carriers charge a fee for that. Saying so early avoids a price change when the driver is already at your door.
