Idaho Motorcycle Shipping

Idaho is long and thin, and its two halves barely connect by interstate. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. Boise, Nampa and Twin Falls sit on I-84 in the south, Idaho Falls and Pocatello are on I-15 and I-86 in the east, and Coeur d'Alene is up in the panhandle on I-90, a long way from either. That layout decides how a trip works, so ask each carrier about your exact pickup city. If you need to ship a motorcycle to or from Idaho, the pickup city matters more than the state, and Idaho motorcycle shipping prices follow whichever interstate your bike is closest to. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Use the quote form at the top of this page or call 1-800-590-6492 at any hour.

Ship a Motorcycle to Idaho, From the Treasure Valley to the Panhandle

Start with the map, because the shape of Idaho does most of the planning for you. I-84 enters from Oregon near Fruitland and runs about 276 miles across the south, past Nampa, Boise, Twin Falls and Burley before it crosses into Utah. Boise, Nampa and the rest of the Treasure Valley all sit on that one road.

The east side works differently. I-15 comes up from Utah through Pocatello and Idaho Falls and leaves for Montana at Monida Pass, while I-86 links Pocatello back to I-84 near Declo. From Salt Lake City to Idaho Falls is about 215 miles, a 1-3 day trip at roughly $325 to $450 open.

The panhandle is the awkward part. Coeur d'Alene is on I-90, which is only about 74 miles long inside Idaho before it climbs Lookout Pass into Montana, and no interstate ties it to Boise (US 95 does). Ask for Coeur d'Alene by name and do not assume a Boise price applies.

Coming from out of state? A bike from Los Angeles to Boise is about 845 miles and runs roughly $450 to $625 on an open trailer. Lanes carriers see often into Idaho include California to Idaho, Washington to Idaho and Utah to Idaho. The Seattle page covers the Puget Sound end.

Idaho Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

A standard bike on an open trailer costs about $375 to $525 for a trip of around 500 miles, about $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles, and about $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Idaho lanes are mostly on the shorter end because the neighbors are close: Boise to Seattle is about 490 miles, Boise to Salt Lake City about 340. Longer hauls cost less per mile, so Los Angeles to Boise at about 845 miles lands at $450 to $625, well short of double a 340-mile trip.

Going enclosed adds roughly 30% to 50%. Crating runs about $150 to $400 on top, a trike or sidecar about $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer such as a Gold Wing often costs $50 to $100 more. The table lists lanes carriers run in and out of Idaho. Figures assume a standard bike on an open trailer. Transit means days on the road after pickup, so budget another one to three days for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Idaho lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Idaho. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Idaho

Boise is where most Idaho pickups start. It sits on I-84 between Salt Lake City and the Oregon line, so it has the most pickup options in the state. Boise to Seattle is about 500 miles and runs $375 to $525 open, with a 2-5 day transit. Boise to Salt Lake City is shorter, about 340 miles.

Twin Falls works well for Nevada and the Southwest. Twin Falls to Las Vegas is about 495 miles at $375 to $525 open, and the Idaho to Nevada lane is a steady one. Idaho Falls to Denver is about 595 miles at $400 to $550.

Smaller towns cost a little more in time. If your bike sits in McCall, Salmon or Sandpoint, ask whether the driver will come to you or wants to meet near a main highway, and give the carrier a pickup window of several days, not one date.

Riders heading to Sturgis from the Boise area face a long haul east across Montana or Wyoming. Many ship the bike ahead and fly, then do the same in reverse. The Idaho to California and Idaho to Washington lanes are good ones to quote early.

Idaho Motorcycle Transport on I-84, I-15 and I-90

Three lengths are worth knowing. I-84 is about 276 miles in Idaho, I-15 about 196 and I-90 about 74. I-84 and I-15 are the long ones, and I-90 is the short link over the Montana line. Lookout Pass sits at about 4,700 feet on that border.

Inside Boise, I-84 runs along the edge of the city and I-184, a spur only about 4 miles long, feeds downtown. If your address is in the middle of town, ask whether the carrier can come to the door or wants to meet you near the interchange.

Twin Falls sits just off I-84, and US 93 crosses the Snake River Canyon there on the Perrine Bridge. Pocatello is not on I-84 at all. Drivers reach it on I-86 or I-15, so a bike bound for Pocatello from Boise adds a leg compared with one bound for Twin Falls.

US 95 is the long road that actually joins the two halves of the state, running north from Weiser through Lewiston to Coeur d'Alene. It is slower than an interstate, so ask for extra scheduling time on a pickup along it.

Motorcycle Shipping to Idaho by Season

Snow is the main variable, and it is not evenly spread. The Boise valley has a milder winter than the mountains around it, but Lookout Pass in the panhandle and the passes into Montana can slow or slow trucks for a day. A winter shipment to Coeur d'Alene deserves a few extra days of slack.

Spring is when the phone rings. Riders who stored a bike over the winter want it home by May, and carriers get busy. Fall and winter quotes are often lower outside snowbird lanes.

Summer is simple on the road and busy on the calendar. The Sturgis rally in August pulls bikes east, so book early if your dates are fixed to a trip. If you can pick the date, ask carriers whether fall or winter is cheaper and avoid the first sunny week of spring.

Boise Rides and Where Idaho Riders Go

Boise holds a Motorcycle Awareness Rally in May, during Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. In 2025 it met on a Saturday at Sandy Point in Lucky Peak State Park, rode with an escort to the Idaho State Capitol, and ended with a barbecue at Kristen Armstrong Municipal Park. It is a safety ride, not a rally week. Check the Idaho Transportation Department for the current year.

For the big gatherings, many Idaho riders look farther afield. The Sturgis rally in South Dakota runs in August, and Idaho bikes cross Montana or Wyoming to reach it. Rally weeks make a lane cost more, so quote early and give the carrier a window around your travel dates.

Wherever you are headed, the pickup window matters more than the event. Ask for a window of three to five days, and aim for a delivery that lands at least two days before you need the bike. The Idaho to Montana lane is worth a quote if your trip heads toward Montana.

Military Moves to and From Idaho

Mountain Home Air Force Base lies about 12 miles southwest of the town of Mountain Home, which is roughly 40 miles southeast of Boise on I-84. Ask the carrier whether it can pick up or deliver at the base or wants to meet you in town or in Boise. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount, and get quotes as soon as you have report orders.

Tell the carrier whether the bike goes to the base, to a rental in Boise, or to a storage unit, because the drop point changes how the driver plans the day.

Idaho Shipping Challenges and Tips

A few things are specific to Idaho. They are easy to plan around once you know them.

Two Separate Idahos

The panhandle and the south connect by US 95 and not by interstate. Ask each carrier how it will reach Coeur d'Alene, because rates there can differ from Boise.

Winter Passes

Lookout Pass on I-90 and the mountain roads into Montana can close or slow trucks in snow. A shipment in that direction between November and March needs extra days.

Small-Town Pickups

Towns like McCall, Salmon and Sandpoint are off the interstates. Ask whether the driver will come to you or wants to meet near the highway.

Tip: Name Your Exact City

A Boise quote and a Coeur d'Alene quote can differ a lot. Give the carrier the city and ZIP code you will use for pickup or delivery.

Tip: Book Ahead in Late Spring

Spring is a busy time for shipping bikes home after winter. Ask for quotes two to three weeks out and give a pickup window of a few days.

Tip: Prep Before the Driver Arrives

Take off bags and loose gear, ask the carrier how much fuel to leave, and photograph every side. Our prep checklist has the rest.

Idaho Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Idaho?

For a standard bike on an open carrier, expect roughly $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. A Los Angeles to Boise trip of about 845 miles runs $450 to $625. Enclosed costs roughly 40% more.

How long does it take to ship a bike from Boise to Seattle?

Boise to Seattle is about 500 miles and usually takes 2 to 5 days on the road once the bike is picked up. Add one to three days for scheduling, so plan on about a week from first call to delivery. Salt Lake City is closer, at about 340 miles and 1 to 3 days.

Can a carrier deliver to Coeur d'Alene?

Carriers can quote it. Coeur d'Alene is on I-90 in the panhandle. Tell them the exact city when you request quotes, because a quote for Boise will not carry over to it, and ask how soon a truck can reach you.

Does snow stop motorcycle shipments in Idaho?

It can slow them. Lookout Pass and other mountain roads see winter closures, and trucks wait for plows. The Boise valley is milder. Allow extra days for panhandle or Montana routes between November and March, and ask the carrier how it handles weather holds before you commit.

Is a lane from Idaho to Sturgis expensive?

It is a long haul across Montana or Wyoming, and rally weeks can raise prices further. Book early and give a pickup window of several days. Compare quotes for shipping out and for the return trip, since the two directions can price differently.

Should I choose open or enclosed for an Idaho shipment?

Open transport suits most bikes and costs less. Choose enclosed for show paint, a classic, or a winter run through mountain passes. Ask carriers for both prices and compare the gap before you decide.

Do I need to be at pickup and delivery?

Someone has to sign the inspection report when the bike is loaded and again when it is unloaded. If that cannot be you, name a friend or family member ahead of time and tell the carrier.

What if my motorcycle does not run?

Mention it on the quote form. A bike that will not start has to be winched onto the trailer, and a carrier may charge for that. Knowing early keeps the price from changing on pickup day. Also say if the bike has a flat tire or a dead battery.
