Colorado Motorcycle Shipping

Colorado splits in two for anyone shipping a bike, with the Front Range on I-25 from Fort Collins through Denver to Colorado Springs, and everything west of it sitting behind mountain passes. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. I-70 climbs to 11,158 feet at the Eisenhower Tunnel on its way to Grand Junction, and trucks to the western slope run on a different schedule from trucks along the Front Range, which is why a carrier will ask for your exact city. If you plan to ship a motorcycle to or from Colorado, the city you name decides the price more than the state does, and Colorado motorcycle shipping to a town like Durango takes longer to place than a run to Denver. The rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Use the quote form at the top of this page or call 1-800-590-6492 at any hour.

Ship a Motorcycle to Colorado, Front Range or Western Slope

Tell the carrier which side of the Divide you live on. Denver, Aurora, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs and Pueblo are strung along I-25, and trucks reach them all day. Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs and the ski towns are on the other end of I-70, which crosses the mountains and runs about 450 miles inside the state from Utah to Kansas.

Denver is the hub. Most bikes coming in from the Midwest roll down I-70 or I-76 from Nebraska, and bikes from the Southwest come up I-25 from New Mexico. Denver to Albuquerque is about 375 miles and runs $350 to $500 open, with a 1-3 day transit. Chicago to Denver is about 1,005 miles at $500 to $675, a 3-6 day trip. Bikes from Texas come up I-25 through Pueblo and Colorado Springs first.

Colorado Springs is the other big drop on I-25, with Fort Carson and several other bases around it. Houston to Colorado Springs is about 955 miles at $475 to $675 open, a 2-5 day trip. From Phoenix to Denver is about 785 miles and $450 to $625. Delivery to a mountain town like Vail or Telluride is where the extra time goes: a full-size trailer may stop in the valley and ask you to meet it, so pick a lot with room to turn around.

Lanes worth starting with: California to Colorado, Texas to Colorado and Illinois to Colorado. The Houston page covers the Gulf end of one of the busiest.

Colorado Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

On an open trailer, a standard bike runs about $375 to $525 at 500 miles, $500 to $675 at 1,000 miles, and $725 to $1,000 at 2,000 miles. Colorado sits in the middle of the country, so many lanes fall in the 500 to 1,000-mile range: Colorado Springs to Dallas is about 720 miles, Denver to Chicago about 1,005. Longer hauls cost less per mile, so Denver to Los Angeles at about 1,020 miles runs $500 to $700. Western slope pickups can cost extra time rather than extra money, since the driver has to cross the passes first.

Enclosed trailers add roughly 30% to 50%. Crating adds $150 to $400, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer often $50 to $100. Below are lanes that move through Colorado often. Each price is for a standard bike on an open trailer, and transit counts days on the road once the driver has the bike. Scheduling can add one to three days before that.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Colorado lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Colorado. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Colorado

Leaving from the Front Range is easy. Denver and Colorado Springs have steady traffic in every direction, and a pickup within a few days is normal in the riding months. In summer, ask a week or more ahead. Denver to Los Angeles is about 1,020 miles at $500 to $700 open, a 3-6 day trip. Colorado Springs to Dallas is about 720 miles and $425 to $600.

West of the Divide is slower. Grand Junction to Phoenix is only about 570 miles at $400 to $550 open, and it can move in 2-5 days, but the driver has to drive I-70 over the passes first. Denver to Grand Junction is about 245 miles at $325 to $450 open.

If you are riding to Sturgis from Colorado, you can ship out or ship in. Fort Collins to Sturgis runs about 345 miles and $350 to $475 by open trailer, while Sturgis to Denver is about 375 miles and $350 to $500. Many Front Range riders just ride there, then ship the bike home if they fly back. Either way, give the carrier a pickup window of a few days.

Popular lanes out of the state: Colorado to Arizona, Colorado to Texas and Colorado to Illinois.

Colorado Motorcycle Transport Over the Rockies

I-70 is the road every carrier knows. It runs about 450 miles in Colorado, passes Idaho Springs, Vail, Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction, and goes through the Eisenhower Tunnel, which is 1.7 miles long and the highest point on the interstate at 11,158 feet. Vail Pass tops out at about 10,660 feet. In between, Glenwood Canyon is a 12-mile stretch of the freeway that drivers plan their day around.

I-25 is the other spine, and it is the busier one for freight. It joins Fort Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, and then drops to New Mexico. Boulder and Golden are short detours off the Denver stretch of it. East of Denver the picture changes: I-70 runs flat through Limon and Burlington to the Kansas line, and I-76 cuts northeast toward Nebraska, which is how many Midwest bikes arrive.

Mountain towns are different. US 550 over Red Mountain Pass, at 11,018 feet, includes the Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Silverton. It is great riding, with narrow lanes, steep cliffs and no guardrails in places, and snow often closes it in winter. If your bike is in Durango, Telluride or Steamboat Springs, the driver will probably suggest a larger town as the handoff point, so ask which one works for both of you.

Motorcycle Shipping to Colorado by Season

The Front Range has a milder winter than the map suggests, and a bike can often be picked up in Denver in January. The passes are another story. Winter snow can slow or stop trucks on I-70 in the mountains, and a week of storms in the high country can push a western slope delivery back.

Spring is when the calls start. Owners who stored a bike for the winter want it to the mountains by Memorial Day. Trail Ridge Road, the 48-mile road across Rocky Mountain National Park that tops out at 12,183 feet, is closed over its high stretch from October to May. Book in April if your dates are fixed.

Fall is the quiet window, and riders do not need to hurry. The high summits keep their own weather, and snow is possible at the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak in any month, and afternoon thunderstorms are common up there. Quotes outside snowbird lanes often run lower in fall and winter.

Pikes Peak, Trail Ridge and Why Riders Ship to Colorado

Colorado draws riders for the mountain roads. The Pikes Peak Highway runs 19 miles from Cascade to a 14,115-foot summit above Colorado Springs. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has run since 1916 on the same road, which is now paved all the way. The motorcycle classes ended after a fatal crash in 2019 and a review in 2021, so the race is no longer a reason to ship a bike here.

The riding is the draw instead. Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park runs 48 miles between Estes Park and Grand Lake and reaches 12,183 feet. The Million Dollar Highway runs between Ouray and Silverton over Red Mountain Pass. Plenty of out-of-state owners ship a bike to Denver or Grand Junction for a summer trip, then ship it home. Book early, since summer lanes into Colorado fill, and rates tend to rise in busy weeks.

For the big rally of the region, see the Sturgis page. Front Range riders are a short haul from it.

Military Moves to and From Colorado

Fort Carson, Peterson Space Force Base and the Air Force Academy are all around Colorado Springs, and Buckley Space Force Base is in Aurora, so Colorado sees a steady flow of service members on orders. Colorado Springs to Dallas, about 720 miles and $425 to $600 open, and Houston to Colorado Springs are two lanes in the table below. Orders usually give a short window, so a pickup that waits for the first open slot can cost you a week. Get quotes as soon as you have a report date, and ask each carrier whether it offers a military or multi-bike discount.

Colorado Shipping Challenges and Tips

Mountains cause most Colorado delays. These habits cut the risk.

Snow on the Passes

I-70 over the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass can slow trucks in winter. Western slope deliveries slip first.

Mountain-Town Addresses

Roads like US 550 are narrow and steep, and snow often closes them in winter. Expect to meet the driver in a larger valley town.

Bikes Out of Storage

Spring shipments often involve a bike that sat all winter. A dead battery or stale fuel slows loading, so charge it and add fresh fuel before the driver comes.

Tip: Give the City, Not the State

A quote for Denver does not apply to Telluride. Name the pickup and drop-off cities and ZIP codes.

Tip: Ship Early in Spring

If the bike must be in Colorado by Memorial Day, start in April and give a pickup window.

Tip: Photograph Everything

Take dated photos from every side before the driver arrives. Our prep checklist shows what to remove.

Colorado Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Colorado?

For a standard bike on an open trailer, figure $375 to $525 at 500 miles, $500 to $675 at 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 at 2,000 miles. Chicago to Denver is about 1,005 miles at $500 to $675. Enclosed adds roughly 40%.

How long does it take to ship a bike from Phoenix to Denver?

Phoenix to Denver is about 785 miles and takes 2 to 5 days on the road after pickup. Open transport is roughly $450 to $625. Add one to three days for scheduling before the truck arrives, so plan on about a week from your first call to the bike sitting in Denver.

Can a carrier deliver to a mountain town like Vail or Telluride?

Sometimes, but not always to the door. A full-size trailer may stop in a valley town and ask you to meet it, since mountain roads are narrow and steep. Name the town when you request quotes and ask where the driver can drop the bike.

Do snowy passes delay motorcycle shipments in Colorado?

They can. I-70 passes such as Vail Pass and the approach to the Eisenhower Tunnel can slow or stop trucks in winter. Give the carrier a wide window for western slope deliveries, and ask how the driver handles a weather hold before you book.

Is Colorado to Sturgis an easy lane?

It is a short one. Fort Collins to Sturgis is roughly 345 miles and takes 1 to 3 days, with open quotes from $350 to $475. The rally in August is busy, so ask for quotes three weeks ahead, keep your window flexible, and compare prices for shipping both ways.

Should I choose open or enclosed for Colorado?

Open works for most bikes and costs less. Enclosed makes sense for show paint or a winter trip over I-70, where sleet, snow and road grit are likely. Ask for both quotes so you can see what the shelter costs before you decide.

Do I need to be present at pickup and delivery?

Yes, or a person you trust must. An adult has to check the bike over and sign off with the driver when it goes on the trailer and again when it comes off. In the mountains, a friend nearer the highway can stand in for you.

What if my motorcycle does not run?

Put it in the quote request. Dead bikes get winched onto the trailer, which takes more time, and some carriers bill extra for it. Telling them up front means the price you were quoted is the price you pay at pickup.
