Ship a Motorcycle to Tennessee: Pick Your Corner First
Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville are far enough apart that carriers may treat them as separate pickups. Memphis to Nashville is around 210 miles, and Knoxville is another long stretch of I-40 east of Nashville. Say which city you are closest to when you ask for quotes.
Memphis looks west. Arkansas is right across the Mississippi, and a Memphis to Dallas run of about 455 miles takes 1 to 3 days. Nashville is where I-24, I-40 and I-65 all meet. Knoxville and Chattanooga connect to Georgia on I-75, North Carolina on I-40 and Virginia on I-81.
Mountain addresses are the difficult ones. Gatlinburg sits in a valley ringed by high ridges, about 39 miles southeast of Knoxville, and Pigeon Forge is about 6 miles north of it. Roads up to cabins in the Smokies foothills climb quickly and turn hard, and a full-size trailer may not make every drive. Offer a parking lot in town, or a rental-office lot if you are staying in a cabin.

Tennessee Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times
Last updated: October 2026
Tennessee prices follow distance more than anything. A 210-mile hop like Nashville to Memphis comes to about $325 to $450 on an open trailer, and a trip of around 470 miles such as Chicago to Nashville about $375 to $525. For 705 miles, like New York to Knoxville, expect about $425 to $600. The Los Angeles run, around 2,000 miles, is about $725 to $1,000.
Enclosed adds 30% to 50%. A crate adds $150 to $400, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer like a Road Glide or Gold Wing about $50 to $100. October and summer weekends near the Smokies can push prices up. The rows below are open-trailer estimates for a standard bike, with days counted from pickup. Add one to three days to schedule the pickup.

How Getting Quotes Works
You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Tennessee lanes, and the offers come back to you.
1. Send one request
Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.
2. Carriers respond
We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Tennessee. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.
3. Compare the offers
Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.
4. Choose your company
You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.
Shipping a Motorcycle From Tennessee to Another State
Chicago is the big lane north. Knoxville to Chicago is about 535 miles, roughly $400 to $550 on an open trailer with 2 to 5 days on the road, and Nashville to Chicago is shorter, about 470 miles. Ask several carriers and pick the best window.
Going south to Florida is the other big one. Chattanooga to Miami is about 780 miles, around $450 to $625, and 2 to 5 days. In fall, snowbird traffic headed for Florida can make trailers on this lane tight, so check the Tennessee to Florida lane early if you plan to move then.
West Coast hauls are long. Nashville to Los Angeles is around 2,000 miles and costs about $725 to $1,000, with 6 to 9 days on the road. Give the carrier a pickup window of several days on a trip that long.
If you are moving from Memphis, the Tennessee to Texas lane is a short one by shipping standards, about 455 miles to Dallas.
Tennessee Motorcycle Transport on I-40 and Its Neighbors
I-40 is 455 miles long in Tennessee, the longest piece of that highway in any state. It passes Memphis, Jackson, Nashville, Cookeville, Crossville, Knoxville and Newport on the way east to North Carolina. Between Cookeville and Crossville it crosses the Cumberland Plateau, climbing to nearly 2,000 feet, and snow and ice there can slow trucks.
I-24 runs southeast from Nashville to Chattanooga, and I-65 heads north from Nashville into Kentucky. I-75 runs from Chattanooga through Knoxville toward Kentucky, and I-81 branches off I-40 near Dandridge, about 35 miles east of Knoxville, and heads northeast toward Virginia.
The Natchez Trace Parkway runs 444 miles and ends at Pasquo, Tennessee, about 20 miles southwest of Nashville, at Tennessee Route 100. Commercial traffic is prohibited along the entire route, so no carrier will use it, and anyone living near it should plan on a handoff at a main road.
Why Riders Ship Bikes to East Tennessee
The Tail of the Dragon is the reason many bikes arrive. It is about 11 miles of US 129 along the North Carolina line near Deals Gap, said to have about 318 curves, and the speed limit is 30 mph. The Blount County Rescue Squad staffs the road on summer weekends to help with emergency calls, mostly motorcycle crashes.
The Cherohala Skyway is the quieter alternative. It runs 43 miles from Tellico Plains, Tennessee, to Robbinsville, North Carolina, climbing from just under 900 feet to just over 5,400 feet near the state line.
Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson in Maryville hosts Smoky Mountain Bike Week, which H.O.G. chapter calendars list for late September into early October. That overlaps the start of the park's busiest month, so ask for quotes early if your bike is headed there.
Neither mountain road is a place to park a tractor-trailer, so ask the carrier where it can meet you. A town on a main highway, such as Maryville, is the likelier drop point, and from there you ride in. If you ship in from Texas or the Midwest for a week in the hills and ship home from the same place, quote both directions together.
Motorcycle Shipping to Tennessee by Season
Spring and fall are the best months for riding, and demand for moving bikes tends to follow. October is the busiest month in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, according to National Park Service visit counts, so leaf-watchers and riders fill East Tennessee. Book two weeks ahead if your delivery is in or near the Smokies.
Winter is often cheaper outside snowbird lanes, but ice is a real risk. Snow and ice have hit I-40 in Cumberland County on the plateau and closed roads in the Smokies park, and mountain roads are the likeliest to have trouble. A pickup in Gatlinburg in January needs plenty of slack.
Summer is hot and humid across most of the state and cooler at elevation. A bike on an open trailer takes it fine.
Military Moves Around Fort Campbell and Memphis
Fort Campbell straddles the Tennessee and Kentucky line near Clarksville, and Naval Support Activity Mid-South is in Millington, about 16 miles northeast of Memphis. Both bring service members in and out on orders. Get quotes as soon as you have a report date. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military or multi-bike discount, since some do and some do not.
Tennessee Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips
Mountains and the sheer length of the state cause most of the problems here.
Winter on the Plateau
Snow and ice on I-40 across the Cumberland Plateau and in the mountains can slow a driver. Allow extra time from December to March.
Mountain Drives
Steep, tight driveways near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge can be hard on a big trailer. Plan a handoff in town.
Three Separate Markets
Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville are each roughly 180 to 210 miles from the next. A carrier that serves one may not serve the others.
Tip: Say Which Tennessee You Mean
Name the city nearest to you. A Memphis pickup and a Knoxville pickup attract different drivers, and a clear answer saves a round of emails.
Tip: Quote Both Ways for a Ride Trip
If you ship in for the Dragon, the Skyway or Bike Week, request the return quote at the same time. It lets you plan dates on both ends.
Tip: Strip and Photograph the Bike
Remove bags, GPS units and phone mounts, leave about a quarter tank and take photos of every side. The prep checklist has more.
Tennessee Motorcycle Shipping FAQs
What does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Tennessee?
It depends on distance. Chicago to Nashville, about 470 miles, is roughly $375 to $525 open. New York to Knoxville, about 705 miles, is roughly $425 to $600. Enclosed adds roughly 40%.
How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to Tennessee?
Los Angeles to Knoxville is about 2,175 miles and takes 6 to 9 days on the road. Pickup scheduling adds a day or two, so plan on about two weeks door to door.
Can I have a motorcycle delivered near the Tail of the Dragon?
Usually to a nearby town, not the road itself. A town on a main highway, such as Maryville, is the likelier drop point, and mountain roads may be too tight for a full trailer. Ask the driver for a meeting spot.
Does a carrier use the Natchez Trace Parkway?
No. Commercial traffic is prohibited along the entire 444-mile parkway, so carriers use interstates and highways nearby. The Tennessee end is at Pasquo, about 20 miles southwest of Nashville.
Is it cheaper to ship to Nashville or a small town in Tennessee?
Often a large city. Carriers already run lanes through places like Nashville, so more of them may bid on your bike. A small mountain town can cost more or take longer, because the driver has to leave the interstate.
Does winter weather affect shipping in Tennessee?
Yes, mainly on the Cumberland Plateau and in the mountains. Snow and ice can slow a driver for a day or more. Pad your schedule from December through March.
Can I ship a bike from Tennessee to Florida in the fall?
Yes, but fall is snowbird season. Chattanooga to Miami is about 780 miles and 2 to 5 days on the road, and trailers can be scarce in October and November, so request quotes early.
What if I cannot be home for pickup or delivery?
Name an adult to sign the inspection paperwork for you. Carriers usually need someone present at both ends. Ask that person to photograph the bike during the walk-around.
