Kentucky Motorcycle Shipping

Kentucky runs about 400 miles east to west, with Appalachian country in the east and the Bluegrass in the north-central part, and bikes move through it very differently at each end. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. Louisville, Lexington and Bowling Green sit on I-65, I-64 and I-75, so a trailer gets to them without trouble. Eastern Kentucky is another matter, with winding mountain roads. If you plan to ship a motorcycle to or from Kentucky, tell the carrier the town as well as the county, because that one detail decides where the handoff happens. Kentucky motorcycle shipping to the Bluegrass is a standard interstate job, and Fort Knox and Fort Campbell are both close if your move is on orders. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Ship a Motorcycle to Kentucky: Bluegrass, River and Mountains

Start with the map. I-65 takes bikes from Nashville to Bowling Green and on to Louisville, I-64 links Louisville with Lexington, and I-75 comes down from Cincinnati through northern Kentucky and Lexington. If your delivery address is in any of those corridors, a truck gets close to the door.

Northern Kentucky is a special case. Covington is across the Ohio River from Cincinnati and is part of the Cincinnati metro area, but it sits in Kentucky. State the city and the state when you ask for quotes, as with any Ohio to Kentucky move. It keeps the driver from showing up on the wrong bank of the river.

The east and southeast are where plans change. A road like KY 15 between Campton and Hazard is a fine two-lane for a rider, with switchbacks and coal trucks to watch for, and a car hauler has no reason to be on it. Expect to meet the driver at a lot on a main highway or on a parkway exit.

Moving in from out of state? California to Kentucky and Texas to Kentucky are good lanes to price first.

Kentucky Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

On an open trailer, a standard bike runs roughly $325 to $450 for about 250 miles, $450 to $600 for about 750 miles, and $600 to $850 for about 1,500 miles. Shorter lanes like Louisville to Lexington (about 75 miles) quote at $300 to $400. Bigger distances raise the price, but not in proportion.

Enclosed adds 30% to 50%. A crate is $150 to $400 more, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a big touring bike may add $50 to $100. Below are lanes that carriers run in and out of Kentucky. Prices are for a standard bike on open transport, and transit time covers road days after pickup, with another one to three days for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Kentucky lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Kentucky. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Kentucky

Louisville to Miami is about 1,080 miles, and an open trailer quotes at $500 to $700, 3 to 6 days on the road. Lexington to Dallas is about 880 miles at $475 to $650, 2 to 5 days. Both lanes see regular freight.

Bowling Green sits on I-65, so carriers running between Nashville and Louisville pass right by it. A bike headed to Phoenix from there covers about 1,665 miles and quotes at $650 to $900, with 4 to 8 days on the road.

For short moves, Louisville to Nashville is about 175 miles and Louisville to Lexington about 75. These are the shortest lanes, so the pickup time is often the main question. If you are going up to Indiana, across to Ohio or down to Tennessee, ask whether the carrier is already running the lane.

Kentucky Motorcycle Transport: Parkways, Interstates and Back Roads

Kentucky has a set of named parkways that work as secondary highways. The Bluegrass Parkway runs 71.1 miles from I-65 at Elizabethtown to US 60 at Versailles. The Mountain Parkway starts at I-64 in Winchester and runs 43.1 miles to Campton, then continues to Salyersville. The old Natcher Parkway from Bowling Green to Owensboro is now signed as I-165. The parkways are how you get off the main interstates toward smaller towns.

Four interstates carry the long-distance traffic. I-65 runs about 137 miles through the state, from the Tennessee line past Bowling Green and Elizabethtown to Louisville. I-64 is about 191 miles, entering from Indiana at Louisville and leaving for West Virginia near Ashland by way of Lexington. I-75 covers about 192 miles from Williamsburg through Lexington to Covington. I-24 covers roughly 93 miles in the far west, passing Paducah and Hopkinsville.

Then there are the roads trailers do not use. KY 77 goes through the Nada Tunnel at the gateway to Red River Gorge, a 900-foot tunnel with one lane. Kentucky Tourism's riding guide also points to US 421 from Bedford to Frankfort and the Old Frankfort Pike (KY 1681) between Frankfort and Lexington. They are good for a weekend ride and poor for a tractor-trailer.

If you live on one of them, plan to meet the driver where the road meets a state highway. It takes a few minutes and saves a failed pickup.

Motorcycle Shipping to Kentucky by Season

Kentucky winters are moderately cold and rainy, and the January 2009 ice storm shows how bad an ice event can get. A pickup in the hills may wait for a clear morning, so give the carrier a wider window from December through February.

If you want a lower price, late fall and winter quotes outside the snowbird lanes are often lower.

The Kentucky Bike Rally in western Kentucky falls in July, covered below.

Kentucky Rallies and Ride Weekends

The Kentucky Bike Rally is held on the Union County Fair and Expo Center grounds in July, on the third weekend. It is open to any make of bike and includes dirt drag racing, a poker run, a bike show and live music. Union County is in western Kentucky, on the Ohio River, with Morganfield as the county seat. The event page also lists raffles, field events, food and more than 100 vendors.

If you want a bike in Union County for the July rally, book two or three weeks ahead. And if you are sending a bike to Sturgis in August, ask for quotes early. Rally weeks can lift prices on busy lanes.

Fort Knox and Fort Campbell Moves

Fort Knox is in Hardin County, next to Radcliff, which sits about 34 miles south of Louisville on US 31W. Fort Campbell sits on the Kentucky and Tennessee line between Hopkinsville and Clarksville and is home to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Soldiers moving on orders should request quotes as soon as they have a report date. Ask each carrier about a military discount, because it is the carrier's choice.

Kentucky Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Two things slow Kentucky shipments, hills and river borders. A few habits fix most of it.

Mountain Roads

Mountain roads in the east, like the KY 15 switchbacks, leave little room to turn around. A big trailer may not reach your door.

Cincinnati and Covington

Covington is part of the Cincinnati metro area but sits in Kentucky. A quote entered for the wrong side of the river causes confusion.

Winter Ice

Rainy winters can bring ice storms. Give the carrier a wider window from December through February.

Tip: Say Where You Are Meeting

In the mountains, suggest a lot on a state highway or a parkway exit. It saves the driver time.

Tip: Quote the Return Trip Too

If you are sending a bike south for winter, ask for the spring return when you book. It may help you get a slot.

Tip: Remove the Extras

Take off saddlebags, GPS mounts and loose gear. Photograph the bike on each side. Our prep checklist has the rest.

Kentucky Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Kentucky?

Houston to Bowling Green, about 840 miles, quotes at $450 to $625 on an open trailer. New York to Lexington, about 705 miles, is $425 to $600. Enclosed costs roughly 40% more.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to Kentucky?

Los Angeles to Louisville is about 2,090 miles and quotes at 6 to 9 days on the road. Allow a few extra days to book the pickup.

Can a carrier deliver to eastern Kentucky?

Often yes, but not always to your door. Mountain roads can be too tight for a trailer, so expect to meet the driver at a lot near a main highway. Tell the carrier the town when you request quotes.

Is northern Kentucky the same as Cincinnati?

No. Covington and the nearby towns are in Kentucky, across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Put the state in the request so quotes match the right address.

Should I choose open or enclosed?

Open suits most bikes. Enclosed is worth the extra for a custom or classic bike, or a winter trip on wet roads.

Can I ship a bike to the Kentucky Bike Rally in Union County?

Yes. The rally is in July, so request quotes two or three weeks ahead. Give the carrier a delivery address near the fairgrounds, such as a hotel, and a few days of pickup flexibility.

Do I have to be present at pickup and delivery?

Someone does. You or an adult you name signs the condition report at both ends. Photograph the bike before the driver comes.

What if my motorcycle is not running?

Say so up front. A bike that will not start needs a carrier with a winch, and some carriers add a fee. It is better to learn that before the day of pickup.
