Alabama Motorcycle Shipping

Alabama sits on the main road between the Midwest and the Gulf Coast, and that is why so many bikes pass through it. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. I-65 runs 366 miles through the state from the Tennessee line to Mobile, and I-20 and I-59 cross it at Birmingham on the way to Atlanta and Mississippi, so plenty of carriers use them. If you need to ship a motorcycle to or from Alabama, whether the bike is going to a Huntsville garage, a Gulf Shores condo or a buyer in Dallas, Alabama motorcycle shipping is mostly a question of dates and open or enclosed trailers. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Use the quote form at the top of this page or call 1-800-590-6492 at any hour.

Ship a Motorcycle to Alabama: What to Expect at Delivery

Most bikes coming into Alabama arrive on one of three roads. I-65 brings them down from Nashville and Chicago, I-20 brings them in from Atlanta or Dallas, and I-10 handles the Gulf side through Mobile. If your delivery address is in Birmingham, Montgomery or Mobile, the truck will usually get within a few blocks of your door.

Huntsville needs a second look. It is not on I-65. It sits on the I-565 spur that leaves the interstate at Decatur, so a carrier running straight down I-65 has to peel off for a short detour to reach you. That is rarely a problem, but mention the city when you book so the driver plans for it, and expect a pickup or drop on the Huntsville end to be scheduled a little differently from one in Birmingham.

Out in the country, the last mile can be the hard part. A tractor-trailer cannot turn around on a narrow county road or a long gravel drive, and the driver will ask to meet you at a big parking lot nearby. A feed store, a church lot or a gas station with room to swing works fine. Someone must be there to sign the condition report and look the bike over before the driver leaves. If it cannot be you, name an adult in advance.

Moving to Alabama from out of state? Start with the lane you need: Illinois to Alabama, Texas to Alabama and Florida to Alabama are the ones carriers run most.

Alabama Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

A standard cruiser or sport bike on an open carrier costs about $375 to $525 for a trip of around 500 miles, about $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles, and about $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Longer hauls cost less per mile. A 2,000-mile haul runs only a few hundred dollars more than a 750-mile one, not three times as much.

Enclosed trailers add roughly 30% to 50%. A crate adds about $150 to $400 on top, and a trike or sidecar adds about $150 to $300. Heavy touring bikes like a Gold Wing or Road Glide often add $50 to $100. The table below shows common Alabama lanes. Prices are for a standard bike on open transport unless noted, and transit time is days on the road after pickup. Add one to three days for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Alabama lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Alabama. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Alabama

Going the other way is simpler, because Birmingham and Montgomery are easy to pick up from and the highways leave in every direction. From Birmingham, a bike bound for Texas follows I-20 west through Mississippi and Louisiana. A bike headed for Florida takes I-65 south to Mobile and then I-10 east, or heads east and then south through Georgia, depending on where it ends up.

Short hauls are quick. Birmingham to Atlanta is about 150 miles on I-20, one of the easiest lanes in the Southeast, and a carrier already running that corridor can often pick up within a couple of days. Longer trips take more patience. A bike going to the West Coast or up to the Northeast usually waits for a carrier with a full trailer, and the longer the haul, the more the pickup window matters.

Planning to ride to Sturgis from Alabama? Plenty of riders ship the bike out and fly home, or ship it one way and ride back. Either way, give carriers a pickup window and not a single date.

Alabama Motorcycle Transport: Highways and Pickup Points

I-65 is the backbone. Over its 366 miles in Alabama it passes Decatur, Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile, and it picks up I-20/I-59 in Birmingham, I-85 in Montgomery and I-10 at the Gulf. The Birmingham interchange where I-65 crosses I-20/I-59, exit 261, is known locally as Malfunction Junction for its crashes, and a wreck there can back up trucks for hours.

I-85 is the road for Auburn and the Montgomery to Atlanta run. I-22 gives Birmingham a straight shot west toward Memphis. Most carriers stay on interstates, so a pickup in a small town off the main roads is often the one that gets bumped a day while the driver works around the schedule.

One road you will not see a carrier on is the Natchez Trace Parkway. It crosses the northwest corner of the state, and trucks are banned on the whole parkway. If you live along it, the driver will meet you on a US highway close by.

Motorcycle Shipping to Alabama by Season

Weather rarely shuts Alabama down the way it does a mountain state, but the Gulf can. Hurricane season runs June through November, and when a storm heads for Mobile Bay or the Alabama and Florida coast, carriers hold bikes back and roads along the coast can close for a day or two. Book Gulf Coast pickups with a little slack, and expect more of it in late summer.

Winter is mild, with the odd ice storm in the north around Huntsville that can slow a driver. The busy windows follow the snowbirds. Riders in the Midwest and Northeast send bikes south in the fall, many of them down I-65, and bring them back in spring. Trailers fill up faster in those months, and quotes sit higher.

Summer heat does not bother a bike strapped to a trailer, but a black seat sitting in the sun for a week is a good reason to put a cover on it, and a solid reason some owners spend the extra on enclosed.

Alabama Rallies and Track Events

Barber Motorsports Park outside Birmingham hosts two motorcycle weekends worth planning around. The Barber Vintage Festival takes over the park each October (the 2026 edition is the 21st), with vintage racing and a swap meet of old iron, and MotoAmerica brings its Superbike series to the track in May.

If you plan to ship a bike in for either one, book at least two to three weeks ahead. Carriers fill their trailers for event weekends early, and a driver who already has your pickup lined up can slot you in more easily than one asked to find room on short notice. Prices tend to rise in event weeks, so ask for a quote early.

Alabama is also a stop on the way to bigger rallies. Bikes headed for Daytona Bike Week, which runs from late February into March, or Biketoberfest in October often travel I-65 and I-10, and shipments from Alabama to Florida pick up around those weeks.

Military Moves to and From Alabama

Redstone Arsenal near Huntsville and Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery send a steady number of service members in and out, and orders usually give a short window. If you are moving on orders, get quotes as soon as you have a report date, because the best pickup slots go first. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount. Some do, and it takes one question to find out.

Alabama Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Three things slow Alabama shipments down. Three habits make them easier.

Gulf Storms and I-10

A tropical storm near Mobile or the Florida Panhandle can shut roads along the coast and hold trucks in place for days. Mid-August through mid-October is the busiest stretch of the season.

Malfunction Junction

Where I-65 crosses I-20 and I-59 in Birmingham, crashes are common. A wreck there can stall a trailer for hours and push a delivery window a day.

Rural Last Miles

County roads and long gravel drives can be too tight for a tractor-trailer. Expect to meet the driver at a large parking lot close to home.

Tip: Ask About Huntsville

Huntsville is a short detour off I-65 on the I-565 spur. Say so when you request quotes, and ask the carrier whether the detour changes the pickup date.

Tip: Book Early for Barber Weeks

For the October vintage festival or the May MotoAmerica weekend, book two to three weeks ahead. Trailers fill and prices climb as the date gets closer.

Tip: Clear the Bike First

Pull saddlebags, GPS units and phone mounts, and keep the tank near a quarter full. Photograph every side with the date showing. Our prep checklist covers the rest.

Alabama Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Alabama?

For a standard bike on an open carrier, expect about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Enclosed costs roughly 40% more. Your quote depends on the cities, the bike and the season.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to Alabama?

A West Coast to Birmingham run is around 2,060 miles and usually takes 6 to 9 days on the road. Add a day or two for pickup scheduling, so plan on about two weeks door to door.

Can a carrier deliver to Huntsville?

Yes. Huntsville is off I-65 on the I-565 spur at Decatur, so the driver adds a short detour. Mention the city when you request quotes so the carrier plans for it.

Will hurricane season delay my shipment?

It can. Hurricane season runs June through November. A storm near Mobile Bay or the Florida Panhandle can close roads on the coast and hold trailers back for a few days. Build in extra time for Gulf Coast pickups and deliveries.

Is open or enclosed transport better for Alabama?

Open transport works for most bikes and costs less. Enclosed is worth the extra for a custom paint job, a classic or any bike you do not want exposed to summer sun, rain and road grit for several days.

Can I ship a bike to Barber Motorsports Park for the Vintage Festival?

Yes. Book two to three weeks before the event, which runs each October near Birmingham. Carriers fill event weeks early, and prices are higher when space is tight.

Do I have to be there when the bike is picked up or delivered?

Someone does. You or an adult you name must sign the condition report at pickup and delivery. The driver will not leave the bike unattended, and you will want to check it over before signing.

What if my motorcycle does not run?

Tell the dispatcher when you request quotes. A bike that will not start needs a carrier with a winch, and some carriers charge extra for it. Saying so early avoids a surprise at pickup.
