Oregon Motorcycle Shipping

Oregon has a mountain pass at one end and a big river at the other, and bikes arriving from California or Washington cross one or the other. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. Almost everything moves on I-5, which runs about 308 miles from the California line to Portland, and most Oregonians live in the Willamette Valley, which I-5 runs the length of. Bend, the coast and the high desert east of the Cascades are where it gets harder. If you want to ship a motorcycle to or from Oregon, where you live matters more than how far you are going. Oregon motorcycle shipping from a Willamette Valley address is routine, and from Bend or Bandon it takes a bit more planning. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Ship a Motorcycle to Oregon: Which Corridor Are You On

Picture the state as three roads. I-5 is the one most bikes arrive on. I-84 brings them in from Idaho and Utah along the Columbia River. US 101 is a coast road that no long-haul trailer wants to be on unless it has to be.

If your address is in Portland, Salem, Eugene or Medford, you are on the easy road. Carriers can reach I-5 cities more directly than they reach Bend or the coast.

Bend and central Oregon are a step off the main line. Carriers can get there, but they treat it as a detour, and a driver with a full trailer may want to meet you somewhere on the way. Riders on the coast have it harder still. US 101 is 363 miles of mostly two-lane road through Brookings, Coos Bay, Newport and Astoria, and heavy rain can close sections with landslides.

So tell the dispatcher the town, not just the metro. "Near Portland" can mean a freeway exit or a mountain road.

Moving here from out of state? Most Oregon traffic is California to Oregon, Texas to Oregon or Arizona to Oregon.

Oregon Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Typical Transit

Last updated: October 2026

Plan on about $375 to $525 for a standard bike on an open carrier over 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles, and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Short hauls cost more per mile than long ones.

Enclosed adds roughly 30% to 50%. A crate adds $150 to $400 on top, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a heavy touring bike like a Road Glide $50 to $100. The table below lists common Oregon lanes. Transit time is days on the road after pickup. Add one to three days for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Oregon lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Oregon. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Oregon: Portland, Eugene and Beyond

Some riders spend the winter in Arizona or Southern California and ship the bike south in fall and home in spring. Eugene to Phoenix (the Oregon to Arizona lane) is a long haul, and an open carrier typically charges $550 to $750. Portland to Sacramento on the Oregon to California run quotes at $400 to $550.

Short hops are cheap. Medford to San Francisco quotes at $350 to $500 open, and Medford sits right on I-5.

Going east takes longer. A Portland to Chicago run (Oregon to Illinois) is a long haul at $750 to $1,025 open, 6 to 9 days on the road. Bend to Salt Lake City runs $425 to $575 open.

Planning to ride Sturgis in August? Portland to Sturgis is a long haul. You can ship the bike out and fly, or ride out and ship it home. Either way, give the carrier a window, not a date.

Oregon Motorcycle Transport: Three Roads, Three Problems

I-5 crosses the Siskiyou Mountains in the south at Siskiyou Summit, 4,310 feet, one of the highest points on the Interstate system. The stretch is about 11 miles with grades up to 6 percent, and fog and snow are normal there in winter. The pass has chain-up areas and runaway truck ramps. If your bike is coming up from California, this is a likely place for a delay.

I-84 is the other big one. It runs 378 miles from Portland to the Idaho line near Ontario, through the Columbia Gorge past Hood River and The Dalles, then on to Pendleton, La Grande and Baker City. East of Pendleton the road climbs into the Blue Mountains, where the summit near Kamela is 4,193 feet. The easternmost 168 miles have steep grades and sharp curves, and winter weather causes frequent closures.

Then the coast. US 101 has been the Oregon Coast Highway since 1931. Landslides after heavy rain have closed it before, including one near Brookings in 2019 that moved the road about 150 feet. Detours can be long.

Motorcycle Shipping to Oregon by Season

Oregon has three weather problems, and they do not overlap much. Winter snow hits Siskiyou Summit and the Blue Mountains. Heavy autumn and winter rain can close parts of the coast. Summer is the easy season for the mountain passes.

If you send a bike to Arizona or Southern California for the winter, book early in both directions and give the carrier a window.

Allow a few extra days for the mountains in winter.

Portland Custom Shows and Small-Town Rallies

The One Moto Show is a Portland custom and classic bike show. The 2026 show was its 17th, held in May at Zidell Yards, in a century-old barge building on the Willamette River. If you want to bring a bike for a show like that, a carrier can deliver it to a Portland address.

If your shipment lines up with an event, ask for quotes early and give the carrier a window.

The other draw east of Portland is the Historic Columbia River Highway. It runs about 75 miles from Troutdale to The Dalles, was built between 1913 and 1922, and is described as the nation's oldest scenic highway. It passes Crown Point's Vista House and Multnomah Falls, so it makes a natural first ride if you ship a bike to Portland. Ask the carrier to deliver to a Portland address and ride out to the old road from there.

A one-way plan works too. Ship the bike to Portland, ride the highway to The Dalles, and arrange the pickup for the return trip from there. Tell the carrier the town when you ask for quotes.

Oregon Shipping Challenges and Tips

Three things slow Oregon shipments. Three habits help.

Siskiyou Summit

Fog and snow on I-5 south of Ashland can hold up trucks coming from California. The pass has chain-up areas and runaway truck ramps.

Blue Mountains on I-84

Winter weather causes frequent closures on the eastern stretch. A bike coming from Boise or Salt Lake City may have to wait until it reopens.

Coastal Landslides

Heavy rain can close US 101 and force a long detour. Deliveries to Brookings, Gold Beach or Newport can run late.

Tip: Name Your Town

Put the valley, central Oregon or the coast in your quote request. A carrier that knows about a detour prices it honestly. Say which road the bike sits on, so the quote reflects the real pickup.

Tip: Avoid Storm Weeks

If you can pick your dates, skip the middle of winter for anything crossing Siskiyou or the Blue Mountains. A clear week is worth a lot.

Tip: Check the Bike Over

Rain is common on the west side, so photograph every side dry at pickup. Strip loose gear, and run through the prep checklist before the driver arrives.

Oregon Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

What does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Oregon?

On an open carrier, expect about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Enclosed adds roughly 40%. The cities, the bike and the season set the final price.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from Texas to Oregon?

Dallas to Portland is one of the long hauls in the table above, so check the transit estimate there. Add one to three days for pickup, and give the carrier a window.

Can a carrier reach Bend or central Oregon?

Yes, though it counts as a detour from I-5. Tell the dispatcher your town when you request quotes. Some drivers will ask to meet you at a larger lot or closer to the main highway.

Does winter weather stop deliveries on the Oregon coast?

It can slow them. Heavy rain can close parts of US 101 with landslides, and detours can be long. Book a flexible delivery window for coast addresses.

Which Oregon roads cause the most delays?

Siskiyou Summit on I-5 has fog and snow in winter, I-84 through the Blue Mountains has frequent winter closures, and US 101 can close after landslides. Allow extra days on lanes that use them.

Can I ship a bike to Portland for The One Moto Show?

Yes. Ask for quotes early and give the carrier a pickup window. The show has been held in May, so check the current dates before you book.

Do I need to be home when the bike is picked up?

Someone has to sign the inspection report at both ends. That can be you or an adult you name. Walk around the bike before you sign, with your pickup photos in hand.

What if my bike doesn't run?

Say so in the quote request. A bike that will not start rolls onto the trailer with a winch, and carriers that have one often charge for the extra work. Telling them early keeps the price honest.
