Arizona to Idaho Motorcycle Shipping Rates by Bike Type

Expect to pay about $500 to $675 to move a standard cruiser or sport bike from Phoenix to Boise on an open carrier, or about $700 to $950 enclosed.

The trip climbs out of the desert and into the mountains. Shipping skips the climb.

The price here follows the mileage, but the Idaho end matters too. Boise gets frequent truck traffic, while the panhandle and the mountain towns do not, so a bike headed there may wait for a driver who is already going that way.

Plan on $50 to $100 more for a Gold Wing or other big tourer, $150 to $300 more for a trike or sidecar, and a winch if the bike will not start. Mention each one early so the price holds at pickup.

Spring pushes the price up on both ends. Owners bring bikes out of storage in April and May, and April is also when many Arizona owners ship theirs out of the Valley. A booking three or four weeks ahead gives you more carriers to choose from. The money-saving tips in our guide show other ways to lower the price.

From the Sonoran Desert to Idaho

A truck leaving Phoenix starts at about 1,100 feet above sea level, and Idaho sits much higher. I-17 alone climbs from about 1,117 feet in Phoenix to 7,000 feet on its 146 miles to Flagstaff, and a storm at the top can hold a driver for a day while the Valley stays sunny.

Fly into Boise and pick up the bike when it arrives.

Most Idaho traffic ends up on I-84, which crosses the south of the state for about 276 miles. Nampa, Boise, Twin Falls and Burley all sit on it, so a bike headed to any of them gets an easy last leg. The east side is different. I-15 comes up from Utah through Pocatello and Idaho Falls, and I-86 links Pocatello back to I-84 near Declo, which is part of why the price to Idaho Falls does not match the price to Boise.

Coeur d'Alene is the awkward one. It sits on I-90 in the panhandle, which runs only about 74 miles inside Idaho before it climbs Lookout Pass into Montana, and no interstate ties it to Boise. US-95 is the link, running north from Weiser through Lewiston at a slower pace.

In Boise, the I-184 spur, about 4 miles long, feeds the downtown core. If your address is in the middle of town, the driver may ask you to meet near the interchange.

How Your Motorcycle Is Loaded and Secured for the Trip

Red sport motorcycle strapped down on a wooden crate base, Arizona to Idaho motorcycle shipping crate
A bike on a crate base. Few owners crate for this trip, and it adds roughly $150 to $400.

A good driver loads a motorcycle upright. The front wheel goes into a chock so it can't move, and soft straps go around solid points like the frame or the lower triple clamp. The straps are tightened enough to hold the bike but not so much that they bottom out the forks. Hooks stay off your bars, levers and paint.

Enclosed trailers add a roof and walls, and a route from low desert to high mountain country sees a lot of weather. Owners of custom paint and vintage bikes often pick enclosed for exactly that reason. At pickup, go around the bike with the driver and read the condition report together. Keep it beside your dated photos until the bike arrives in Idaho.

Arizona to Idaho Motorcycle Shipping Challenges & Tips

Idaho is easy along I-84 and slower everywhere else. Plan around these.

Mountain Passes in Winter

A snowstorm on Lookout Pass or the other routes toward Montana can park a truck for a day. A winter pickup or drop in the panhandle deserves a few extra days.

Two Halves of the State

No interstate links Boise and Coeur d'Alene, so a bike headed for the panhandle takes a different route from one headed for Boise.

Small-Town Addresses

McCall, Salmon and Sandpoint are well off the main highways. The driver will likely ask you to meet at a lot on a highway.

Tip: Book in Early Spring

Quotes climb when riders pull bikes out of storage in April and May, and Arizona owners are shipping out at the same time. Booking three or four weeks ahead gives you a better choice of carriers.

Tip: Heading to Mountain Home?

Mountain Home Air Force Base is about 12 miles southwest of the town of Mountain Home, roughly 40 miles southeast of Boise on I-84. Ask each carrier whether it can deliver to the base or wants to meet in town, and ask about a military discount.

Tip: Prepare Your Motorcycle

Wash the bike, take off soft bags, GPS units and phone mounts, and leave the tank at about a quarter. Switch the alarm off, take dated photos of every side, and note any leaks. Tell the dispatcher before pickup if the bike will not start or has been lowered or modified. Our transport prep guide has the whole checklist.

Arizona to Idaho Motorcycle Shipping Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from Arizona to Idaho?

Most Arizona to Idaho shipments take 3-6 days once the bike is on the truck. Boise is at the short end, and the panhandle takes longer. Scheduling the pickup takes a few more days, so budget about two weeks from booking to delivery.

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Idaho from Arizona?

A standard cruiser or sport bike from Phoenix to Boise runs about $500 to $675 on an open carrier and about $700 to $950 enclosed. Real prices depend on your bike, dates and cities.

Is open or enclosed transport better for this route?

Most bikes ship open without trouble. Enclosed makes more sense for fresh paint, a classic or a high-value bike. The extra cost is roughly $200 to $275.

Which Idaho cities do carriers deliver to?

Boise, Nampa, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls and Pocatello see the most bikes. Mountain and panhandle towns are served too, but expect a wider window and a meeting point on a main highway.

Is a quote to Coeur d'Alene priced like one to Boise?

No. The panhandle is a separate trip, since no interstate connects it to Boise, and carriers price it on its own. Ask for a quote to the exact town.

How should I prepare my motorcycle for shipping from Arizona?

Wash the bike, take off soft bags and anything loose, and leave roughly a quarter tank. Photograph every side with the date, write down any leaks, and tell the dispatcher if the bike will not start.

Should I ride my motorcycle from Arizona to Idaho or ship it?

The ride is about 1,000 miles from Phoenix to Boise, which most riders cover in three long days. Fuel, hotels and tire wear add up, and every mile goes on the bike. If you only need the bike in Idaho, shipping it and flying is often the easier plan.

Do I need to crate my motorcycle for this trip?

Not normally. A bike strapped properly on an open trailer, or loaded onto an enclosed one, reaches Idaho without a crate. Crating costs roughly $150 to $400 and suits show bikes. Ask each carrier whether it offers one.

Is door-to-door motorcycle delivery available from Arizona to Idaho?

Often, yes. A driver comes to your address when the street allows it. For a gated Arizona neighborhood, check with the gate office ahead of time so the truck is let in.

Can I call for a quote at any hour?

Yes, around the clock. Call 1-800-590-6492, or send the quote form and see up to ten offers.
