West Virginia Motorcycle Shipping

West Virginia is mountains from one border to the other, and almost every shipping question comes back to that. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. I-77 covers 187 miles of the state from Bluefield to the Ohio line, and I-79, I-64 and I-68 do most of the rest, so a carrier with a full trailer can reach Charleston, Morgantown or Huntington easily. If you want to ship a motorcycle to or from West Virginia, the town matters more than the state: an address on an interstate is a quick handoff, and a hollow off a county road is not. West Virginia motorcycle shipping also depends on the season, because the same grades that make the riding good make winter pickups slow. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Ship a Motorcycle to West Virginia: Which Valley Are You In?

Charleston is the easy one, and most first-time shippers start there. I-64 and I-77 run together there, and the Kanawha River valley is wide enough that a trailer can get near most addresses. Huntington is at the western edge of the state on I-64, on the Ohio River, and carriers coming from Lexington reach it on that same interstate.

The north is different. Morgantown sits on I-79, close to the Pennsylvania line, so a bike from Pittsburgh or the Northeast arrives from that side. Pittsburgh is about 75 miles north on I-79. Out east, Martinsburg is on I-81, roughly 63 miles from Washington and 73 from Baltimore.

Then there are the places in between. A farm up a county road, or a house in a narrow valley, may be too tight for a full-size trailer. If you are not on a state highway, expect to meet the driver at a lot on one. A gas station with room to turn is the usual choice.

Bikes coming from the north usually come on the Ohio to West Virginia or Pennsylvania to West Virginia lanes.

West Virginia Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

For a standard bike on an open carrier, expect roughly $325 to $450 for about 250 miles, $450 to $600 for about 750 miles, and $500 to $675 for about 1,000 miles. A short hop like Charleston to Morgantown, about 155 miles, quotes at $300 to $425. West Virginia lanes are mostly short to medium, so most prices sit near the lower end.

An enclosed trailer costs roughly a third to a half more. Crating runs $150 to $400 extra, sidecars and trikes $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer $50 to $100. The lanes in the table are ones carriers run into and out of the state. Quotes are for a stock bike on an open trailer. Days on the road start after pickup, and booking the pickup can take one to three more.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run West Virginia lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of West Virginia. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From West Virginia

Charleston to Orlando is about 785 miles and quotes at $450 to $625 on an open trailer, 2 to 5 days on the road. Martinsburg to Miami is longer, around 1,095 miles at $525 to $725. Both follow I-77 or I-81 south, then the Southeast corridors.

Going west, Huntington to Dallas is about 995 miles and quotes at $500 to $675, 2 to 5 days. Morgantown to Chicago is a shorter run, about 530 miles at $400 to $550, and often a pickup within a couple of days.

Anything that starts deep in the mountains takes longer to set up, and the same goes for a delivery there. The driver may need a day to fit the stop into a loop, so give a pickup window of several days. For the coast, look at the West Virginia to Virginia lane, and for the Great Lakes the West Virginia to Ohio lane.

West Virginia Motorcycle Transport: Turnpike, Corridor H and Backroads

The West Virginia Turnpike is the spine of the south, about 88 miles from near Princeton to Charleston, with three toll barriers. I-77 follows it, and the Turnpike was once nicknamed '88 miles of miracle.' From south of Beckley to Charleston, I-77 and I-64 are the same road. At Bluefield, I-77 enters the state through the East River Mountain Tunnel. North of Charleston, the same interstate runs through the southeast corner of Parkersburg and out to the Ohio line at Williamstown.

I-64 is the other long road, about 189 miles from the Kentucky line at Kenova through Huntington, Charleston and Beckley to the Virginia line near White Sulphur Springs. Corridor H, or US 48, is the newer east-west road. It runs 157 miles from Weston, at I-79, to Strasburg, Virginia, through rugged mountains and two national forests. It has been built in pieces, and some stretches are still two-lane. A driver heading toward Davis or Wardensville may be on a slower road.

US 19 crosses the New River Gorge Bridge near Fayetteville. The bridge is 3,030 feet long and the roadway is 876 feet above the river.

Motorcycle Shipping to West Virginia by Season

Winter is the problem. Snow and ice on the mountain grades can slow a trailer, and fog is common in the Kanawha valley. A pickup in Beckley or Elkins may slip a day when the weather turns, especially on the roads that climb out of the valleys.

October has the extra pull of Bridge Day, and a trailer going through Fayetteville that weekend can find the bridge closed to cars.

If you can wait, winter quotes outside the snowbird lanes are often below the summer numbers.

Bridge Day and Other Reasons to Ship a Bike In

Bridge Day is held on the third Saturday of October at the New River Gorge Bridge, near Fayetteville. The bridge closes to cars for the day and opens to pedestrians, and the event draws a crowd to Fayetteville. It started in 1980 and has run almost every year since, apart from 2001, 2020 and 2021.

If your bike is going to Fayetteville that week, expect delays and book early. Plan the delivery for a lot on your own side of the gorge and ask the carrier how it handles the closure.

The bridge lies inside New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, which gained national park status in 2020. Some riders ship a bike to the area for a week of mountain roads and fly home, which works fine as long as someone is at the delivery address to sign for it.

If you do that, ask carriers whether the delivery can be a stop near Charleston or Beckley instead of a back road. For rallies farther out, the Sturgis run from West Virginia is a long one, so many riders ship one way.

West Virginia Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Mountains slow things down. Planning for that helps.

Narrow Valleys

A county road up a hollow can be too tight for a full-size car hauler. The handoff usually happens on a state highway.

Mountain Weather

Snow, ice and fog on the grades can slow a pickup by a day. Winter schedules need a wider window.

Slow Sections

Parts of US 48 are still two lanes, and the turnpike has toll barriers. Drivers allow extra time on both.

Tip: Pick a Meeting Spot

Decide on a lot along a state highway before you book. A gas station with room to turn works, and it saves the driver a long trip up a bad road.

Tip: Name the Closest Town

Give the nearest town and interstate exit with your address. It helps the carrier work out the route and the time.

Tip: Prep Before the Weather

Remove loose bags and mounts, take dated photos, and keep the tank near a quarter full. Our prep checklist covers the rest.

West Virginia Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to West Virginia?

Tampa to Charleston, about 840 miles, quotes at $450 to $625 on an open trailer. Boston to Morgantown, about 585 miles, is $400 to $550. Enclosed adds roughly 40%. The season and your bike change the number.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to West Virginia?

Los Angeles to Charleston is about 2,320 miles and takes 6 to 9 days on the road. Pickup scheduling can add a few days, so plan for about two weeks overall.

Can a carrier reach rural West Virginia?

Usually to a point. Mountain roads and hollows can be too narrow for a trailer. Expect to meet the driver at a lot on a state highway, and say so when you request quotes.

Does winter stop shipments in West Virginia?

It slows them. Snow and ice on the mountain grades can delay trailers by a day. Carriers keep moving, so add flexibility to your dates.

Are there tolls on the way?

Yes. The West Virginia Turnpike, the I-77 stretch from near Princeton to Charleston, has three toll barriers. Ask each carrier whether its quote already allows for them.

Can I ship a bike for Bridge Day in Fayetteville?

Yes. Bridge Day is each October, and the New River Gorge Bridge closes to cars that day. Book early and agree on a delivery spot that does not depend on crossing it.

Do I have to be there for pickup and delivery?

Someone does. You or an adult you name signs the condition report at both ends, and you should check the bike over before you sign.

What if the bike does not run?

Mention it when you request quotes. Loading a bike that will not start needs a winch, and some carriers charge for it.
