Ship a Motorcycle to Maryland: Where the Trailer Can Stop
Most of the state is reachable by interstate: I-95 north and south, I-70 and I-68 from the west, and I-97 down to Annapolis. Suburban addresses in Baltimore County, Columbia or Frederick are the easy ones for a driver.
Baltimore proper and Annapolis can be harder. Canton is a neighborhood of turn-of-the-century rowhouses, and Annapolis has a historic district around the State House. A full-size trailer may struggle on blocks like those. Give the carrier your exact address when you request quotes, then expect the driver to suggest a big parking lot nearby, often just off the Beltway or I-97. That is normal. Be there to look the bike over and sign the inspection report.
The Eastern Shore is a separate delivery. For Salisbury, Easton or Ocean City, a truck either crosses the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on US-50 or comes down the peninsula through Delaware on US-13. Ask which way the carrier plans to go.
Coming from another state? Lanes to price first are Virginia to Maryland, Florida to Maryland and California to Maryland.
Frederick and Hagerstown both sit on I-70, and I-70 meets I-81 near Hagerstown. Garrett County, home of Deep Creek Lake, is the westernmost county in Maryland and the long haul. Tell the carrier early if you are out there, since a pickup that far west can take extra time to schedule.
Maryland Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times
Last updated: October 2026
Distance sets the price, and the state line barely matters. On an open trailer, a standard bike costs about $325 to $450 for 250 miles, $375 to $525 for 500 miles and $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles. At 2,000 miles it is $725 to $1,000. That gap is small because the first few hundred miles carry most of the fixed cost.
Enclosed transport runs 30% to 50% higher, which is worth it for a vintage machine or a fresh paint job. A crate adds $150 to $400, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer $50 to $100. The rows below are lanes in and out of Maryland. Transit time counts road days after pickup, so add one to three days for scheduling.
| Route | Distance | Transit Time | Open Carrier | Enclosed | |

How Getting Quotes Works
You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Maryland lanes, and the offers come back to you.
1. Send one request
Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.
2. Carriers respond
We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Maryland. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.
3. Compare the offers
Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.
4. Choose your company
You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.
Shipping a Motorcycle From Maryland
Baltimore and Laurel are both close to I-95, which makes leaving the state simple. A Maryland to Florida run is one to price early, with Baltimore to Miami about 1,095 miles.
West and south need a little more planning. A bike bound for Dallas from Hagerstown is about 1,305 miles (see the Maryland to Texas lane). For the West Coast, a carrier may wait until it has a full trailer, so give a pickup window of several days and not one fixed date.
Short hops are cheap but not free. Baltimore to Philadelphia is only about 100 miles. It is the sort of trip where a rider on a tight schedule can sometimes save the money by riding the bike up the road.
Bringing a bike into Maryland to keep? The state's Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) has a page on titling and registering a vehicle for new Maryland residents.
From Annapolis, Chicago is about 720 miles, a two- to five-day trip once the bike is loaded. If you can accept a wider pickup range, ask each carrier for its earliest date and compare. A flexible window is the cheapest thing you can offer.
Maryland Motorcycle Transport on I-95, the Beltways and US-50
I-95 is the state's longest interstate at 110 miles, and two pieces of it matter to a trailer. Under Baltimore it dips into the eight-lane Fort McHenry Tunnel, and the Millard Tydings Bridge over the Susquehanna carries crosswind warning signs. South of the city, I-95 shares the Capital Beltway (I-495) from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to College Park.
I-695 rings Baltimore and I-97 runs down to Annapolis. Going west, I-70 climbs from Baltimore through Frederick to Hagerstown, where it meets I-81, and I-68 continues on to Cumberland. Hagerstown is a useful pickup point because I-70 and I-81 meet there.
US-50 is the road to Annapolis, the Bay Bridge and the Eastern Shore. It is a freeway as far as Queenstown, just past the bridge, and then an at-grade divided highway through Easton and Cambridge to Ocean City. It backs up in summer, mostly eastbound on Friday evenings and westbound on Sunday afternoons.
I-95 is tolled at the Fort McHenry Tunnel and, northbound only, at the Susquehanna crossing near Perryville. Ask the carrier whether tolls are already in the quote.
Motorcycle Shipping to Maryland by Season
The place to watch in winter is the far west. Average snowfall runs over 100 inches a year in the western mountains and about 9 inches on the coast, so a storm out near I-68 can hold a driver while eastern Maryland stays clear. Nor'easters are most common between November and March and can affect the coast.
September also carries the Ocean City events described below.
If your timing is flexible, late fall through February is usually the cheapest window, often below summer on lanes that are not snowbird routes. A rider with no deadline can save real money by waiting.
Maryland rarely takes a direct hit from a major hurricane, since the Delmarva Peninsula and the North Carolina Outer Banks act as a buffer, but it does get the remnants of storms that came ashore farther south. If you are shipping in September, build in a spare day or two.
Ocean City Bike Week and Other Maryland Rides
The big one is in Ocean City each September, when the town hosts its bike week (billed as OC Rock & Ride in 2026, September 9 to 12) around Inlet Village and the Convention Center. Plan on a few busy days.
Anyone planning to ship a bike in for it should book early. In a rally week, rates on busy lanes run higher. Two to three weeks of lead time is a fair rule.
Maryland also sits on the road to bigger gatherings. Gettysburg Bike Week takes place in July (July 9 to 12 in 2026), a short drive north in Pennsylvania, and farther afield are Daytona Bike Week in early March and Sturgis in August.
Anyone sending a vintage or custom bike to a show should ask about enclosed transport.
Military Moves to Fort Meade, Aberdeen and Annapolis
Fort Meade, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Joint Base Andrews, Naval Air Station Patuxent River and the Naval Academy in Annapolis are all in the state. Get quotes as soon as you have a report date, and ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount. Some do. Gate access can also be a factor, so ask where the driver is allowed to meet you, and be ready with an off-base lot as a backup. Fort Meade (officially Fort George G. Meade) sits between Baltimore and Washington, about five miles east of I-95. Aberdeen Proving Ground is in Harford County along I-95, and Patuxent River is in St. Mary's County in southern Maryland, which may take more scheduling.
Maryland Shipping Problems and How to Handle Them
The same few things trip people up here. A little preparation covers most of them.
Tight City Streets
Rowhouse neighborhoods like Canton and the historic center of Annapolis can be hard for a full trailer. Plan on meeting the driver at a lot nearby.
Summer Traffic to the Shore
US-50 is the road to Ocean City, and it is heavily congested in summer. A delivery to the beach on a summer weekend can run late.
Snow in the West
The western mountains get over 100 inches of snow a year in places. A storm can hold a driver, so give western pickups extra room.
Tip: Pick a Lot Near the Beltway
Offer the driver a wide parking lot close to I-695, I-495 or I-97. A short ride to meet the truck saves a lot of back-and-forth on the phone.
Tip: Book the Shore Early
For September at Ocean City, line up the carrier two to three weeks out. Prices can rise as the date closes in.
Tip: Photograph Before Pickup
Take dated pictures of every side, and pull off bags and GPS mounts. Our prep checklist lists the rest.
Maryland Motorcycle Shipping FAQs
What is the cost to ship a motorcycle to Maryland?
It depends on where the bike starts. For a standard bike on an open carrier, think about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Enclosed adds roughly 40%. Get several quotes and compare.
How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to Baltimore?
Los Angeles to Baltimore is about 2,630 miles, and the road time is usually 7 to 10 days. Add a day or two for pickup scheduling. Door to door, plan on two weeks.
Can a carrier deliver downtown in Baltimore or Annapolis?
Often not to the exact door. Narrow rowhouse blocks and old streets are hard on a tractor-trailer, so the driver may ask you to meet at a large lot nearby. Mention the neighborhood when you request quotes.
Is delivery to Ocean City different from other Maryland stops?
A little. The truck has to cross the Bay Bridge on US-50 or come down through Delaware, and summer traffic can add time. In September the events at the beach make it busier, so book early.
Does winter weather stop shipments in western Maryland?
It can slow them. The western mountains get over 100 inches of snow a year in places, which can hold a driver. The coast sees far less, about 9 inches a year, though a nor'easter can still cause delays.
I am moving to Fort Meade. How soon should I get quotes?
As soon as you have a report date. Orders can leave little slack. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount, and agree on where the driver can meet you.
Should I choose open or enclosed transport for Maryland?
Open is fine for most bikes and costs less. Enclosed makes sense for a classic, a custom paint job or a low-slung bike you do not want in road salt and rain for several days.
Do I need to be present at pickup and delivery?
You or an adult you name does. That person signs the inspection report at both ends and checks the bike before the driver leaves. Send the contact details to the carrier ahead of time.
