Pennsylvania Motorcycle Shipping

The Pennsylvania Turnpike alone is about 360 miles long, and it crosses the whole state. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. That distance is why this state needs a plan that depends on where in it the bike sits. If you want to ship a motorcycle to or from Pennsylvania, a Harrisburg pickup near I-81 is a different job from a Pittsburgh delivery in the hills or a bike sitting in an Erie driveway in January. Pennsylvania motorcycle shipping goes smoothly when the carrier knows your town and the weather, so give both when you ask for quotes. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Use the quote form at the top of this page or call 1-800-590-6492 at any hour.

Ship a Motorcycle to Pennsylvania: East, West or Somewhere in the Middle

Carriers do not treat the state as one place. The east end has Philadelphia, Allentown and the Lehigh Valley, reached by I-95, I-76 and I-78. The west end has Pittsburgh, reached on the Turnpike and I-376, with I-79 passing just outside the city. Between them lies a long stretch of ridges and small towns, and Harrisburg sits where I-81 and I-83 meet, close to the Turnpike.

Addresses along those roads are the easiest for a carrier to reach. A delivery in Erie, Williamsport or the Poconos can mean a driver leaving the main routes, so allow some extra time.

Pittsburgh is built on steep hills, and many of its neighborhoods have two-lane streets on slopes. Philadelphia is a city of row houses. If your address is on one of those streets, expect the driver to suggest a parking lot a few blocks away. Pick a place with room to swing a truck, and go there yourself to check the bike over.

Moving in from far away? Arizona to Pennsylvania, Illinois to Pennsylvania and Florida to Pennsylvania are lanes you can price on this site.

Allentown and the Lehigh Valley sit on I-78. Scranton and Wilkes-Barre are different. They are in the northeast on I-81 and the Turnpike's Northeast Extension (I-476), and pickup times there depend on the driver's route.

Pennsylvania Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

A 460-mile trip from Pittsburgh to Chicago costs about the same as a 500-mile one. That is the pattern across the state. A standard bike on an open trailer runs roughly $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $600 to $850 for 1,500. At 2,500 miles the range is about $825 to $1,150.

Enclosed trailers cost 30% to 50% more. You can expect to add $150 to $400 for a crate and $150 to $300 for a trike or sidecar. Heavy touring models can add $50 to $100. The table shows lanes carriers run often in and out of Pennsylvania. Days are road days after pickup, so add one to three days for scheduling. Winter snow can stretch them further.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Pennsylvania lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Pennsylvania. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Pennsylvania

Where you start decides how you leave. From Philadelphia, I-95 gives you the Atlantic coast, and Philadelphia to Myrtle Beach quotes at $400 to $550 open. From Pittsburgh, I-79 leads south to I-77, and the run to Tampa quotes at $500 to $700. Pennsylvania to Florida is a lane to price before cold weather sets in.

Harrisburg to Dallas quotes at $575 to $800 open and takes 3 to 6 days. Erie to Denver runs $600 to $825 and takes 3 to 6.

A Pittsburgh to Philadelphia move quotes at $350 to $475 and takes 1 to 3 days.

Heading to Texas or the Southwest? Give the carrier a pickup window and not a single date.

For the Midwest, price Pittsburgh to Chicago first. It quotes at $375 to $525 and takes 1 to 3 days. Chicago to Philadelphia runs $450 to $600 and takes 2 to 5. See the Chicago page for that end of the lane.

Pennsylvania Motorcycle Transport on the Turnpike, I-80 and I-81

The Pennsylvania Turnpike (about 360 miles) runs from the Ohio line to the Delaware River at the New Jersey line. I-76 follows it from Ohio to Valley Forge, and I-70 shares it between New Stanton and Breezewood. Four tunnels cut through the Appalachians along the way: Allegheny Mountain, Tuscarora Mountain, Kittatinny Mountain and Blue Mountain.

I-80 crosses the state from Ohio to New Jersey, through the Pocono Mountains at the east end. I-81 runs northeast through Harrisburg, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre on its way from Maryland to New York. I-79 runs from Erie south past Pittsburgh to West Virginia. I-83 gives Harrisburg a direct line to Baltimore.

Harrisburg is where I-81 and I-83 meet, so a pickup there is simpler for a driver than one in a mountain town. If you live away from those routes, scheduling can take a day longer while the driver builds a load.

Weather can close these roads. In December 2020 a snow squall caused a 66-vehicle pileup on I-80. In the mountains a closure can leave few detours, which is the main reason carriers give a delivery window and not a time.

Motorcycle Shipping to Pennsylvania by Season

Snow is the main thing. Erie sits in the Lake Erie snow belt and averages about 104 inches a year (the 1991-2020 normal). In December 2017 it got 53 inches in two days, a record for Pennsylvania. A bike shipping into the state in January needs a little more time.

The mountain roads add their own trouble. I-80 reaches 2,250 feet in Moshannon State Forest, the highest it gets east of the Mississippi River. During a February 2021 storm, the Turnpike Commission barred motorcycles and empty or lightly loaded trailers from the Turnpike.

Winter storms are the usual reason a pickup slips. If you can choose, ship the bike before the snow starts, and give the carrier a window of several days.

Gettysburg Bike Week and Pennsylvania Rides

Gettysburg Bike Week is a rally held in July near Gettysburg. In 2026 it ran July 9 to 12 and was billed as the 25th anniversary rally.

If you plan to ship a bike in or out for the rally, ask for quotes early and give the carrier a window.

You can also ship a bike out to Sturgis in August and fly home, or send one down to Daytona in March for Bike Week. Give carriers a pickup window and not a single date.

Military Moves in Pennsylvania

Carlisle Barracks, home of the Army War College, Fort Indiantown Gap northeast of Harrisburg and Tobyhanna Army Depot in Coolbaugh Township all generate moves. Ask each carrier about a military discount, and ask where the driver is allowed to meet you if the gate is restricted. Orders leave little slack, so get quotes as soon as you have a date. Carlisle sits right off I-81.

Pennsylvania Shipping Challenges and Tips

Distance and weather cause most of the delays. A few habits cut them down.

Lake-Effect Snow

Storms off Lake Erie can bury Erie and the northwest corner. A driver may have to wait out a closure, so pad winter dates there.

Mountain Ridges

I-80 and the Turnpike cross mountain country, and winter weather there can slow a whole load.

Hilly Old Neighborhoods

Steep streets in Pittsburgh and row-house blocks in Philadelphia can block a trailer. Meet the driver at a lot nearby.

Tip: Give Your Town, Not Just Your State

Carriers price and plan around the pickup city. Tell them if you are in Harrisburg or in a small town up in the mountains.

Tip: Ship Out Before Snow

Winter storms are the usual reason a shipment slips. If you are sending a bike out of the northern tier, ship before December if you can.

Tip: Photograph Every Side

Take dated photos in good light before the driver arrives, and remove loose items. The prep checklist covers the rest.

Pennsylvania Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Pennsylvania?

A standard bike on an open carrier is about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Enclosed costs roughly 40% more. The exact figure depends on the city, the bike and the carrier.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from Arizona to Pennsylvania?

Phoenix to Philadelphia usually takes 6 to 9 days on the road, as the table above shows. Add one to three days for pickup scheduling.

Is it harder to deliver to Pittsburgh or Philadelphia?

Both have tight neighborhoods, but Pittsburgh's hills add a second problem. In either city, the driver will probably ask you to meet at a big parking lot rather than your street.

Will lake-effect snow delay my shipment to Erie?

It can. Erie is in the Lake Erie snow belt and a closure can hold a driver for a day or more. Allow extra time in winter.

Can I ship a motorcycle to Gettysburg Bike Week?

Yes. The rally is held in July near Gettysburg, and in 2026 it ran July 9 to 12. Ask for quotes early and give the carrier a pickup window.

Which Pennsylvania city is the easiest pickup?

Harrisburg is a good bet. I-81 and I-83 meet there, and the Turnpike is close by. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are also easy near their highways.

Does the Turnpike matter for motorcycle transport?

A carrier can use it or I-80 to cross the state. It is a toll road with four mountain tunnels, and the Turnpike Commission has barred empty or lightly loaded trailers during winter storms.

I am reporting to Carlisle Barracks. How should I plan?

Get quotes as soon as you have your orders, and ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount. Confirm where the driver can meet you if gate access is limited.
