Ship a Motorcycle to Delaware: Wilmington, Dover or the Beaches

Start by sorting out which Delaware you mean. Up north, Wilmington and Newark sit right on I-95, and a driver coming from Philadelphia, Baltimore or New Jersey does not leave the highway for long. These are the easiest drop-offs in the state.

Dover is in the middle of the state, between DE-1 and US-13, and it works for both pickups and deliveries. Sussex County is where things slow down. Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and the roads inland are small, summer beach traffic on DE-1 is heavy, and streets near the water can be tight for a tractor-trailer. A driver may ask you to meet at a big lot near a main road, and that is better than trying to squeeze down a beach block.

A bike coming from New Jersey has to cross water. The Delaware Memorial Bridge is the only fixed road crossing between the two states, so a jam on the bridge can set back a Delaware delivery.

Moving to Delaware from a distance? the lanes carriers see most are Florida to Delaware, Massachusetts to Delaware and North Carolina to Delaware.

Middletown, near US-301, and Newark, on I-95, are both in New Castle County. Ask the carrier whether a shopping-center lot in either one works as a meeting point.

Delaware Motorcycle Shipping Rates: What a Short State Costs

Last updated: October 2026

A small state does not mean a small bill. Shipping is priced by the mile, and a bike leaving Delaware usually has a long way to go. A standard bike on an open trailer runs about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $450 to $600 for 750 miles and $600 to $850 for 1,500 miles. Cross-country, 2,500 miles is about $825 to $1,150.

Enclosed adds roughly 30% to 50%. Add $150 to $400 for a crate, $150 to $300 for a trike or sidecar, and $50 to $100 if the bike is a heavy tourer. The table covers lanes that start or end in Delaware. Days are counted from pickup, so give yourself one to three more for scheduling. Rally weeks and peak summer usually raise the number.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Delaware lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Delaware. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Delaware to Anywhere Else

Because the state is so small, most pickups are a short drive from the I-95 or DE-1 corridor. A bike leaving Wilmington for Orlando is about 955 miles, and Dover to Atlanta comes in around 675.

The long lane out is Delaware to California. Wilmington to Los Angeles runs about 2,690 miles, and the carrier will usually want a pickup window of several days so it can fill the trailer.

Short lanes are cheap but not free. Wilmington to Ocean City, Maryland is only about 125 miles, and if you have the time you may simply ride that one.

Dover to Chicago is about 780 miles, a 2 to 5 day trip on the road. Wilmington to Myrtle Beach is about 540 miles. Offer a flexible pickup window on either one. Delaware is small enough that a driver headed north or south can often grab your bike without losing much time.

Delaware Motorcycle Transport Along I-95, DE-1 and US-13

Three roads carry nearly all of it. I-95 touches the northern tip and joins I-295, which crosses the Delaware Memorial Bridge into New Jersey. DE-1 runs south from the Wilmington area past Dover to the Rehoboth and Dewey Beach area, and US-13 runs beside it as an older, slower route through the small towns.

Dover, about halfway down, is the most useful single address in the state. Dover Air Force Base is just southeast of town.

Rural Sussex County is a different matter. Back roads and subdivision streets can be narrow, and a tractor-trailer needs room to turn around. If you are not near a main road, tell the dispatcher and suggest a gas station or shopping-center lot where the truck can park without blocking anyone.

I-95 and DE-1 both have tolls, and the driver factors them in, so they are not something you handle. Timing is what matters: ask the carrier for a window, not an exact hour, especially near Wilmington on a weekday.

Motorcycle Shipping to Delaware by Season: Beach Summers, Quiet Winters

Summer is the busy stretch near the water. Rehoboth, Lewes and Bethany fill up on weekends, and DE-1 gets heavy traffic on summer Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Pick weekday delivery windows if you have a choice.

Fall and spring are busy with bikes moving between the Northeast and Florida, so there is often a carrier already headed your way. Delaware has the lowest average elevation of any state, so you will not deal with mountain passes in winter, though snow and ice can still delay a pickup.

The Atlantic can still interfere. DE-1 is a hurricane evacuation route from the beaches, so a named storm can mean heavy traffic and delays. If you are shipping around one, ask the carrier what it plans to do, and expect a day or two of slack.

Fall is also the season for Florida runs. Southbound snowbird demand peaks in October and November, so ask a few weeks ahead.

Delmarva Bike Week and Race Weekends at Dover

The motorcycle event that reaches into Delaware is Delmarva Bike Week, held each September around Ocean City, Maryland, with Delaware's Office of Highway Safety promoting it on the Delaware side. Carriers fill early for that week, so book two to three weeks ahead. Rates tend to climb on busy lanes.

Farther afield, Delaware riders head for Daytona in March and Myrtle Beach for the spring rally in May. The Delaware to Florida lane is busy before each.

Lewes is also where the Cape May-Lewes Ferry leaves for New Jersey, and the ferry takes motorcycles.

Dover Air Force Base Moves

Dover Air Force Base is the main reason military moves happen in the state, and it is just southeast of Dover. If you are reporting there or leaving, line up quotes as soon as you have orders. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount, and find out where the driver can meet you, since a trailer may not be able to come inside the gate. Boston to Dover is about 380 miles and takes 1 to 3 days, a typical lane for families moving between the base and New England.

Delaware Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Delaware looks easy on a map. These are the places it is not, plus a few ways around them.

Beach Traffic in Sussex County

On summer weekends the roads to Rehoboth and Lewes back up. A delivery in July can run late for that reason alone.

Narrow Roads Near the Water

Beach blocks and back roads can be too tight for a tractor-trailer. Expect to meet the driver at a larger lot.

Race and Rally Weekends

Delmarva Bike Week brings extra traffic and demand for trailers. Book earlier than you think you need to.

Tip: Choose a Weekday

If you live near the beaches, ask for pickup or delivery Monday through Thursday in summer. The roads are clearer and drivers can reach you faster.

Tip: Offer a Highway-Side Lot

A parking lot near I-95, DE-1 or US-13 is easier for a driver than your street. Suggest one when you request quotes.

Tip: Document the Bike

Photograph all sides with the date, and remove loose gear. See our prep checklist for the full list.

Delaware Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Delaware?

It depends on the starting city. A standard bike on an open carrier runs about $375 to $525 for 500 miles and $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles. Enclosed adds roughly 40%. Ask for several quotes.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from Delaware to Florida?

Wilmington to Orlando is about 955 miles and typically takes 2 to 5 days on the road after pickup. Add a day or two for scheduling the pickup.

Can a carrier deliver to Rehoboth Beach or Lewes?

Usually to the area, not always to the door. Beach streets can be tight and busy in summer, so the driver may ask you to meet at a larger lot nearby. Mention the town when you request quotes.

Which Delaware city is easiest for pickup?

Wilmington and Newark, since both sit right on I-95. Dover is nearly as easy, since it is on US-13 and close to DE-1.

Can I ship a bike to Delmarva Bike Week?

Yes. The event is held in September, mainly around Ocean City, Maryland, with a Delaware side as well. Book two to three weeks ahead, because carriers fill up early for it.

Does the Delaware Memorial Bridge matter for shipping?

It is the only fixed road crossing between Delaware and New Jersey, so deliveries from the Garden State come across it. If traffic stops on the bridge, the delay can ripple through a driver's schedule.

I am stationed at Dover Air Force Base. How should I plan?

Request quotes as soon as you have orders. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount, and find out where the driver can meet you if trucks cannot enter the base.

Do I have to be at home for pickup?

You or an adult you name must be there. That person signs the inspection report and checks the bike before the driver leaves. Share a phone number so the driver can reach them.
