New Jersey Motorcycle Shipping

The New Jersey Turnpike runs the length of the state, about 117 miles on the mainline, and I-78, I-80 and I-295 feed into the same web of highways. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. That is good news for anyone with a bike in the state, because a driver can reach most addresses without leaving a main road. People who ship a motorcycle to or from New Jersey are often moving to the Shore, buying a bike in Pennsylvania or New York, or sending one down to Florida for the winter. New Jersey motorcycle shipping gets complicated at the edges, where narrow streets, bridge traffic and summer crowds slow everyone down. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike. Ship a Motorcycle to New Jersey: North, Central and the Shore

Think of the state in three pieces. North Jersey, around Newark, Paterson and the Meadowlands, is the dense end, close to the bridges and tunnels into New York. Central Jersey, along I-295 and Route 1 near Trenton and Princeton, is wide open by comparison. South Jersey runs from the Philadelphia suburbs to Atlantic City, Cape May and the Pine Barrens.

Central Jersey is the easy part. A driver can often pick up or drop off there without leaving a main road. North Jersey needs more patience. Small-town streets, parked cars and low trees are tough on a tractor-trailer, and a carrier will often ask you to meet at a shopping-center lot.

If you live at the Shore, ask about summer. Roads to Seaside Heights, Asbury Park and Wildwood can back up on summer weekends, holiday weekends most of all, and a delivery that is easy in April can run late in July.

People coming into the state usually start on California to New Jersey, Illinois to New Jersey or Florida to New Jersey. For a bike coming from New York City, the handoff often happens on the Jersey side, where a lot is easier to reach than a Manhattan block.

Jersey City, Hoboken and the Hudson waterfront are the tightest of all. Streets are close to the river and busy with commuters. Meet the driver at an industrial lot or a mall rather than on your block.

New Jersey Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

Short hauls in New Jersey cost more per mile than long ones, and that surprises a lot of people. A standard bike on an open trailer is about $325 to $450 for 250 miles, $375 to $525 for 500 miles and $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles. At 3,000 miles the range is about $925 to $1,300.

Enclosed adds 30% to 50%, which many owners choose for vintage or custom machines. A crate adds $150 to $400, and a trike or sidecar adds $150 to $300. Heavy tourers often tack on $50 to $100. The table shows common lanes in and out of New Jersey, with days counted after pickup. Add one to three days for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run New Jersey lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of New Jersey. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From New Jersey: Florida, Chicago and the Coast

Florida is the lane to know. Newark to Miami is about 1,270 miles and Newark to Orlando about 1,065, with a driver usually needing 3 to 6 days on the road. Traffic on this lane surges in the fall, when snowbirds send bikes south, and again in spring, when they come back.

Chicago is the other major corridor. Atlantic City to Chicago is around 820 miles, and it moves in 2 to 5 days. For the West Coast, Trenton to Los Angeles runs about 2,740 miles and takes 7 to 10 days, so book early if you have a date to meet.

New England is close. Newark to Boston is only about 220 miles. The short lanes are cheap by the mile but not by the dollar, because every pickup carries some fixed cost.

Leaving New Jersey with a bike you are selling? Give the buyer's carrier a few pickup days.

Newark to Orlando is about 200 miles shorter than Newark to Miami, and that difference can show up in the quote. Ask for both if your destination in Florida is flexible.

New Jersey Motorcycle Transport Along the Turnpike, I-78 and I-295

The Turnpike is the spine, running north to south and carrying I-95 from Exit 6 up to the George Washington Bridge. I-78 and I-80 are the main roads west toward Pennsylvania, I-287 loops the northern and central suburbs, I-295 skirts Trenton, and I-195 runs from there to the Shore.

Three crossings dominate trips to Manhattan: the Holland Tunnel, the Lincoln Tunnel and the George Washington Bridge. A delivery to or from New York City often starts or ends at a lot on the Jersey side, so those crossings decide how long the last leg takes. In the south, the Delaware Memorial Bridge connects to Delaware, and Camden and Philadelphia are a short run from I-295.

Port Newark and Elizabeth are close to the Turnpike, which brings truck traffic to the north. Plan on a bit of delay near them, especially on weekday mornings.

Local pickups off the interstates often use Route 1 or Route 9, which run through towns. If your address is on one of them, expect the driver to allow extra time.

Motorcycle Shipping to New Jersey by Season

Snow is far more common in the northwest hills than at the coast, and a bad storm there can slow I-78 or I-80.

Spring and fall are snowbird seasons, so quotes tighten when riders move bikes between Florida and the Northeast. Summer adds beach traffic. If your drop is east of the Garden State Parkway, pick a weekday when you can.

Storms can matter at the coast. A nor'easter can flood low roads, as one did in Cape May and Atlantic counties in October 2025, and a pickup there may slip until the water goes down. If a storm is in the forecast, ask the carrier for a revised date before you lock anything in.

Fall is the stretch to watch for bikes headed south, when snowbirds send their bikes to Florida. For a shorter wait, line up a carrier a few weeks before you want the bike to leave.

Race of Gentlemen, NJMP and Other Jersey Events

New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville has hosted MotoAmerica racing for years, with its round held in September (the 2026 round was September 25 to 27). The park also hosts the AHRMA Vintage Motorcycle Festival, which was held June 26 to 28 in 2026.

Wildwood has its own event. The Race of Gentlemen runs on the beach in October, with pre-1947 motorcycles and pre-1934 cars racing on the sand. If you own an old machine that is headed there, think about an enclosed trailer. Salt air and sand are hard on bare metal.

Book two to three weeks ahead for any of these. Carriers fill early, and quotes on busy lanes can climb. Riders from New Jersey also head south for Daytona and Myrtle Beach, so it is worth asking about the Florida and Carolina lanes too.

Millville is in the south of the state, a long way from Newark, so name the city when you ask for quotes.

Military Moves to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Burlington and Ocean counties and Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County bring a steady flow of service members. Get quotes the day you have orders, and ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount. Confirm where a driver can meet you, since base access rules vary and an outside lot is a good backup.

New Jersey Shipping Challenges and Tips

Traffic and tight streets cause most of the delays here. Some planning cuts them down.

Bridge and Tunnel Traffic

A jam on the George Washington Bridge or in the Turnpike's northern stretch can delay a driver who is meant to reach you that afternoon.

Tight Suburban Streets

Parked cars and low branches can make a street too tight for a tractor-trailer. Expect to meet the driver at a lot.

Summer Shore Traffic

Roads to the beaches back up on summer weekends, holiday weekends most of all. Deliveries there can run late.

Tip: Choose a Staging Lot

A big shopping-center lot near the Turnpike or I-287 saves the driver time and gets you an earlier slot.

Tip: Pick Enclosed for the Beach

If your bike is headed for the Shore or a Wildwood event, think about enclosed. Salt and sand do damage over a few days.

Tip: Prep the Bike

Pull saddlebags and GPS units, and photograph every angle. See our prep checklist for the rest.

For a standard bike on an open carrier, expect about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Enclosed adds roughly 40%. Quotes depend on the cities and the season.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to New Jersey?

Los Angeles to Newark is about 2,760 miles, usually 7 to 10 days on the road. Add one to three days for pickup, so plan on about two weeks.

Can I ship a bike to New Jersey if I live in New York City?

Yes, and many people do. A New Jersey lot is easier to reach than a Manhattan block, and carriers often prefer it. Ask the carrier where they can meet you.

Does shipping to the Jersey Shore cost more in summer?

It can. Weekend traffic can slow deliveries, and peak weeks may cost more on busy lanes. Choose a weekday when you can, and book early.

Can I ship a motorcycle to the Race of Gentlemen?

Yes. The event is held in Wildwood in October. Book two to three weeks ahead, and consider enclosed transport for an older bike.

How do I ship a bike to New Jersey Motorsports Park?

Book as you would for any destination, and name Millville as the drop-off. The park has hosted a MotoAmerica round each September, so ask for quotes early for that week.

Does winter weather delay shipments in New Jersey?

Occasionally. Snow in the northwest hills can slow I-78 and I-80, and nor'easters can flood low coastal roads. Allow an extra day or two in the winter months.

Do I need to be present at pickup?

Yes, or an adult you name. That person signs the inspection report and checks the bike over. Give the driver a phone number that works on the day.
