Ship a Motorcycle to Indiana: Where Trailers Meet

Indianapolis is ringed by I-465, and I-65, I-69, I-70 and I-74 all meet that loop. A bike headed there can arrive on I-65 from Chicago or Louisville, on I-70 from St. Louis or Columbus, or on I-69 from Fort Wayne.

Indianapolis to Louisville is about 115 miles, and Evansville to Atlanta is about 400. Both are short lanes, 1 to 3 days on the road. Coming from the other side, see Illinois to Indiana.

Smaller places take a bit longer. A bike going to a farm outside Terre Haute or a lake house in the northeast corner may take longer to schedule, so ask the carrier. Give the carrier your nearest town, say if the driveway is gravel, and be ready to meet the truck at a lot nearby.

Moving in from out of state? California to Indiana and Florida to Indiana are two long lanes worth quoting early.

Indiana Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

Think of three rough price points for an open trailer. About 250 miles runs $325 to $450, about 750 miles runs $450 to $600, and about 1,500 miles runs $600 to $850. Notice the last one is not double the middle one. Per-mile cost falls fast as the haul gets longer.

Going enclosed costs about a third to a half more. Crating is another $150 to $400, a sidecar or trike $150 to $300, and a big tourer such as a Gold Wing can tack on $50 to $100. The table covers lanes carriers run out of Indiana all the time. Prices are for a stock bike on an open trailer, and the day counts start once the driver has your bike.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Indiana lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Indiana. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Indiana

Leaving is easy. Indianapolis to Orlando is about 970 miles, and quotes for an open trailer run $475 to $675 with 2 to 5 days on the road. Fort Wayne to Dallas is a bit longer at about 995 miles. Ask each carrier for its own timing on both.

Many Indiana owners send bikes south in the fall and ship them back in spring. If that is you, ask for quotes for both legs at once.

Going west or mountain-bound takes longer. South Bend to Denver is about 1,080 miles, and the Indiana to California run is a week or so. Give the carrier a pickup window of several days on those lanes.

Indiana Motorcycle Transport: Toll Road, Interstates and Pickup Spots

The Indiana Toll Road is 156.28 miles from the Illinois line at Whiting to the Ohio line near Angola. I-90 runs the whole way, and I-80 shares it from Lake Station east. It passes Gary, where it meets I-65, then South Bend and Elkhart. At the Illinois line it continues as the Chicago Skyway, and at the Ohio line as the Ohio Turnpike, so it is the direct route between Chicago and Ohio, so quote northern Indiana pickups on that line. It also meets I-69 near Angola, in the northeast corner, where the Toll Road crosses into Ohio.

I-69 now runs unbroken from the Michigan line through Fort Wayne and Indianapolis to Evansville (the last gap, at I-465, opened in August 2024). That route is about 342 miles end to end in Indiana. Evansville sits in the far southwest corner, so ask early for a pickup there and expect a wider window.

Indianapolis has an interstate loop, I-465, about 53 miles around the city, so a delivery on the north or east side is reached without going downtown.

Motorcycle Shipping to Indiana by Season

Indiana has all four seasons, and each one affects shipping differently. The National Weather Service says heavy snowfalls from a cold northwest wind over Lake Michigan are not uncommon at South Bend, and a lake-effect storm in November 2022 put more than 30 inches on the city in a little over a week. The same page puts South Bend's average at 64.5 inches of snow a year. Give a northern pickup extra days in winter.

Spring is busy. Bikes that wintered in Florida come home between March and May, and prices on southern lanes can rise. Summer is calmer. Early fall brings the outbound wave south.

If your timing is flexible, the cheapest windows are late fall and winter, when quotes outside the snowbird lanes run lower.

Indianapolis, MotoGP and Rallies Within Reach

Indianapolis hosted a round of the MotoGP world championship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway from 2008 to 2015. It ran as the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, and the speedway and MotoGP's organizers agreed to end it after 2015. MotoAmerica also raced there in 2015 and 2020. MotoGP is no longer on the calendar there, so there is no big motorcycle weekend to plan around in the city. The speedway is in Speedway, Indiana, about six miles west of downtown Indianapolis, which makes it an easy landmark for a delivery address.

Across the Ohio line, the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio in Lexington is held in July (July 24 to 26 in 2026) and pulls riders from Indiana. Shipping to that corner of the Midwest follows I-70 east, so an Indiana to Ohio quote is the one to ask for.

Big rally weeks lift prices on the busiest lanes, so book two to three weeks ahead for any event. Heading to Sturgis? Ask about a one-way quote and a return quote separately.

Military Moves Near Kokomo

Grissom Air Reserve Base sits in Cass and Miami counties north of Kokomo, home to the 434th Air Refueling Wing, known as the Hoosier Wing. The base has also been called Naval Air Station Bunker Hill and Grissom Air Force Base. Reservists and families moving in or out should request quotes the day orders arrive. Military discounts are up to each carrier, so ask.

Indiana Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Indiana is easy to get through. A few things still trip people up.

Lake-Effect Snow

Heavy lake-effect snow near South Bend can slow trucks for a day or two. Give northern pickups extra days in winter.

The Spring Return

Between March and May, southern lanes fill with bikes coming home. Quotes can rise and pickup windows get longer.

Distance From the Interstate

A farm lane or gravel drive can be too narrow for a full-size trailer. Ask the carrier, and plan to meet the driver in a big lot in town if needed.

Tip: Quote Both Directions

If you winter the bike in Florida, ask for the trip down and back together and compare.

Tip: Name the Nearest Town

Give the closest town and the nearest interstate exit so the carrier can plan the route.

Tip: Strip the Bike

Pull saddlebags, GPS units and phone mounts, then photograph every side with the date visible. Our prep checklist covers the rest.

Indiana Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Indiana?

Indianapolis to Orlando, about 970 miles, quotes at $475 to $675 on an open trailer. Indianapolis to Louisville, about 115 miles, is $300 to $425. Enclosed adds roughly 40%. The cities, the season and the bike itself all change what you are quoted.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to Indiana?

Los Angeles to Indianapolis is about 2,070 miles, 6 to 9 days on the road once the bike is loaded. Getting a pickup booked can take a few more, so figure on two weeks from first call to delivery.

Is Indianapolis easier than a small town?

Usually. Indianapolis and Fort Wayne sit on interstates. A small town off the main roads may take longer to schedule, so offer a wide pickup window.

Does winter weather stop motorcycle shipping in Indiana?

It can slow it. Heavy lake-effect snow around South Bend can delay trucks for a day or two. Outside the snowbird lanes, winter quotes are often lower.

Should I choose open or enclosed transport?

Open suits most bikes and costs less. A show bike, a vintage machine or anything shipped in winter, with salt on the roads, is a better fit for enclosed.

Can I ship a bike to Indianapolis Motor Speedway?

Yes, as a delivery address, like any other. MotoGP raced there from 2008 to 2015 and is no longer on the calendar. If you are going for an event, give the carrier a few days of cushion and book early.

Do I need to be there at pickup and delivery?

Someone has to sign the condition report at both ends, either you or a person you name ahead of time. Photograph the bike before the truck shows up, and walk around it again at delivery before you sign.

What if my motorcycle will not start?

Say so on the quote request. Loading a dead bike takes a winch, and a carrier may charge a fee. You want that settled before pickup day.
