Wisconsin Motorcycle Shipping

Most of Wisconsin's traffic runs along one diagonal, from the Minnesota line at Hudson down through Madison and Milwaukee to Illinois. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. I-94 covers about 348 miles of it, and I-90 and I-43 pick up the rest of the freight. A bike in Milwaukee or Madison is easy to move. One in the Northwoods or out on the Door County peninsula takes a little planning. If you plan to ship a motorcycle to or from Wisconsin, the questions are usually when the snow stops and whether the driver can reach your street. Wisconsin motorcycle shipping follows the same rules as any other state: carriers in our network send quotes, you pick one, and the bike rides a trailer to the door or close to it. Figures below are estimates for a stock bike. Fill in the quote form above or phone 1-800-590-6492, answered around the clock.

Ship a Motorcycle to Wisconsin: Where the Trailer Goes

The easy deliveries are along I-94 and I-90. Madison, Milwaukee, Eau Claire and Wisconsin Dells all sit on or right beside those two roads, so a driver can drop a bike without leaving the highway for long. I-43 handles the lakeshore run from Beloit up to Green Bay, passing Milwaukee, Sheboygan and Manitowoc on the way, and it is the road to the Green Bay and Appleton end of the state.

Milwaukee is close enough to Chicago that the two are practically one market. They are close enough that a carrier with a load for one may have room for the other, and the Illinois to Wisconsin lane is the obvious place to start. Riders coming from the Twin Cities use the Minnesota to Wisconsin route, and many of them end up near Eau Claire, which is about 90 miles from Minneapolis.

Lake towns and small north-woods villages are another story. Many of those streets are narrow, lined with trees and plowed late. A tractor-trailer cannot always make the turn, so expect the driver to ask you to meet him at a big lot, a supermarket or a gas station on the main highway. Retirees moving up from Florida to Wisconsin for the summer may run into this. Someone has to be there to sign for the bike, even if it is a neighbor you named ahead of time.

Wisconsin Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

Open-trailer prices for an ordinary cruiser or sport bike start near $325 to $450 at 250 miles. At 750 miles it is about $450 to $600, and at 1,500 miles about $600 to $850. A coast-to-coast style 2,500-mile haul is about $825 to $1,150. Distance gets cheaper per mile as it grows, so doubling the miles never doubles the bill.

Choose enclosed and plan on 30% to 50% more. Crating is $150 to $400 extra, a trike or sidecar about $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer such as a Road Glide often $50 to $100. The table covers common Wisconsin lanes on open transport. Transit counts days on the road after pickup, and scheduling adds one to three more.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Wisconsin lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Wisconsin. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Wisconsin Before the Snow

October is when Wisconsin riders start calling. The bike goes south for the winter, or goes into a heated shop, or gets sold to a buyer in Arizona who has no frost to worry about. The Wisconsin to Florida and Wisconsin to Arizona lanes are the busy ones, and fall is when the first one gets busy.

A Milwaukee pickup is simple. Madison is nearly as easy. Green Bay, Appleton and Eau Claire work too, but a driver there is usually part of a larger route and will tell you a pickup window of a few days, not an hour. A trip from Milwaukee to Dallas runs about 1,005 miles, and a Madison to Denver haul is around 955, and both fit comfortably in a week once the bike is loaded.

Heading to Sturgis in August? Some Wisconsin riders send the bike ahead and fly out later. Give the carrier a few days of slack on both ends.

Wisconsin Motorcycle Transport: Interstates and the Last Mile

Between Tomah and Madison, I-94 and I-90 share the same pavement for about 92 miles. Past Portage they are joined by I-39 for a roughly 30-mile stretch, which Wikipedia describes as the longest three-route concurrency in the Interstate system. In practice it means one wide, busy road carrying nearly all the trailers between Minnesota and the Illinois line, and a single crash can back traffic up for miles.

I-43 is the second spine. It is about 192 miles long and stays entirely inside the state, running from Beloit to the edge of Green Bay. Past Milwaukee it hugs the Lake Michigan shore through Sheboygan and Manitowoc.

Door County is the one place where the map really matters. WIS 42 and WIS 57 are the only two state highways into Door County, and both run through Sturgeon Bay and cross the ship canal there. Beyond that, towns like Fish Creek, Ephraim and Sister Bay have tight streets, and most drivers prefer a meeting spot on the highway. If your bike is in a summer house at the north end, plan to meet the driver at Sturgeon Bay.

Motorcycle Shipping to Wisconsin by Season

Winter is the long season. Snow and road salt keep most Wisconsin bikes off the pavement from about November through March, so demand drops and prices often follow, usually cheaper outside the snowbird lanes. A storm can still hold up a driver for a day or two.

Spring is the rush. Owners who stored a bike down south or bought one over the winter all want it home in the same four weeks, usually late April through May. If you are shipping a bike to Wisconsin for riding season, get quotes in March and not the week before.

Summer is steady and fall is the second rush, as the bikes head south. One note on weather: an open trailer in an April or October rain means a wet bike, and road salt residue is a good reason to wash it before it loads. Enclosed costs roughly 40% more and keeps most of that off.

Road America, the Harley-Davidson Museum and Other Reasons to Ship

Road America in Elkhart Lake hosts a MotoAmerica Superbike weekend in late spring (May 29 to 31 in 2026). The track sits about halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay, which makes it easy to reach from either end of the I-43 corridor. Trailers for event weekends fill early, so start looking a few weeks out. Rally weeks and peak season tend to raise a quote.

In Milwaukee, the Harley-Davidson Museum opened in 2008 beside the Menomonee River and holds more than 450 of the company's bikes. A Harley that is going to a dealer or a display moves like any other bike.

If you live in Wisconsin and want to ride the west side, WIS 35 follows the Mississippi River as part of the Great River Road, a National Scenic Byway. Bikes headed for Sturgis in early August leave the state on I-90 and I-94.

Wisconsin Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Winter and geography cause most of the delays here. A few habits help.

Late Spring Snow

A cold April can still drop snow in the north and slow trailers on the secondary roads. Do not set a hard delivery date in early spring.

One Road Up Door County

WIS 42 and WIS 57 are the only two state highways into Door County, and both pass through Sturgeon Bay. A stalled truck there can slow everything behind it.

Spring Rush

Bikes coming out of winter storage all need to move in the same few weeks. Trailers fill and quotes rise in late April and May.

Tip: Quote in March

If the bike is coming home for riding season, request quotes in March. You get more carriers to choose from and a calmer pickup window.

Tip: Pick a Highway Meeting Spot

Narrow village streets rarely suit a full-size rig. Pick a wide lot on a main road and give the carrier its address.

Tip: Wash Off the Salt

Winter salt sits in crevices and eats chrome. Clean the bike before loading, run the tank down low, and shoot photos of every side. The prep checklist covers the rest.

Wisconsin Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Wisconsin?

Milwaukee to Dallas, about 1,005 miles, runs roughly $500 to $675 on an open trailer. Madison to Denver, about 955 miles, is $475 to $675. Enclosed adds roughly 40%. Season and bike size move the final number, so compare several quotes.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from Los Angeles to Milwaukee?

It is about 2,045 miles, with 6 to 9 days in transit after pickup. Scheduling the pickup can take a few more, so figure on around two weeks overall.

When is the cheapest time to ship a bike out of Wisconsin?

Deep winter, usually. Fall and winter quotes run lower outside snowbird lanes. Shipping south in October or November is the exception, since that lane is busy, so ask early.

Can a carrier deliver to Door County?

Usually to Sturgeon Bay and often further. Fish Creek, Ephraim and Sister Bay have tight streets, so many drivers ask to meet you at a large lot. Tell the carrier the town when you ask for quotes.

Can I ship a bike across Lake Michigan on the Badger?

The SS Badger ferry runs between Manitowoc and Ludington, Michigan, from May through October, and it carries motorcycles. If you would rather ride your own bike across, the ferry takes motorcycles.

Can I ship a bike to Road America for the MotoAmerica weekend?

Yes. The event is in Elkhart Lake, in late spring (May 29 to 31 in 2026). Book two to three weeks ahead, since carriers fill event weekends early and rates can rise on busy lanes.

Do I need to be there at pickup and delivery?

Yes, you or an adult you name has to be present to sign the inspection form at both ends. Walk around the bike with the driver and write down any scratches before signing.

What if my motorcycle does not run?

Say so when you ask for quotes. Loading a dead bike takes a winch and sometimes a fee, and a driver who finds out at the curb may refuse the load.
