Kansas Motorcycle Shipping

Kansas sits close to the middle of the country, and that is the whole appeal for a carrier. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. I-70 crosses the state for 424 miles from Colorado to Kansas City, and the Kansas Turnpike runs 236 miles from Oklahoma through Wichita and Topeka to the same Kansas City area. If you need to ship a motorcycle to or from Kansas, a pickup in Wichita or the Kansas City suburbs is the simpler job, and farther west the choices may thin out. Kansas motorcycle shipping usually works best when you are flexible by a couple of days. Rates below are estimates for a standard bike on an open trailer. Ship a Motorcycle to Kansas Through Wichita or Kansas City

Wichita and the Kansas City area are the two easiest places in the state to reach. Wichita is the largest city. It sits on I-35 and the Kansas Turnpike with McConnell Air Force Base about four miles southeast of downtown. The other is the Kansas side of the Kansas City area, Overland Park and Kansas City, Kansas, where I-35, I-70 and the I-435 loop all run.

Topeka is on the way between them, on both I-70 and the turnpike. Ask for a day or two of flexibility, since a smaller city can mean fewer trucks passing through.

West of Topeka, the interstate is I-70 alone. Salina connects to I-135 down to Wichita, and Hays, Colby and Goodland follow farther west. Those towns are on the interstate and straightforward for a driver. Addresses off it, and especially down county roads in the Flint Hills or the western plains, are another matter, so expect to meet at a lot on the highway.

Inbound lanes to price first are Texas to Kansas, California to Kansas and Colorado to Kansas. The Missouri to Kansas lane across the state line is short, and the same trailer may also be dropping off in Missouri.

Kansas Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

Because Kansas is central, most trips from here are mid-length. A standard bike on an open carrier costs about $300 to $425 for a run like Wichita to Oklahoma City, about $375 to $525 for 520 miles to Denver, and about $450 to $600 for 750 miles. A 2,000-mile haul costs about $725 to $1,000.

Going enclosed adds roughly 30% to 50%. A crate adds $150 to $400, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer $50 to $100. These are lanes in and out of Kansas. The prices are for a standard bike on an open trailer, and transit time is days on the road after pickup, so add one to three days for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Kansas lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Kansas

Kansas is a good state to leave from. Wichita to Oklahoma City is about 160 miles, a quick run on I-35, and Wichita to Denver is about 520. Dallas is around 365 miles south of Wichita.

From the Kansas City side, I-70 east leads to St. Louis and beyond, and I-35 south connects to Wichita and Oklahoma. A bike going to California or the Pacific Northwest may head west on I-70 to Denver, then onward. Long hauls cost less per mile, but they wait for a carrier with room.

Moving a bike from Fort Riley? The post lies on the Kansas River between Junction City and Manhattan, home of the 1st Infantry Division. Orders can give you little notice, so ask for quotes the day they arrive.

Kansas Motorcycle Transport on the Turnpike and I-70

The Kansas Turnpike is a 236-mile toll road from the Oklahoma line to Kansas City. It carries I-35 from the state line to Emporia, I-335 from Emporia to Topeka, a short piece of I-470 in southeast Topeka, and I-70 from Topeka to Kansas City. Since July 2024 it has been cashless, with tolls collected by transponder or by plate, so you will not see a toll booth. Tolls are the carrier's business, so ask whether the quote already covers them.

Between El Dorado and Topeka, the turnpike crosses the Flint Hills. It is tallgrass prairie country, the densest intact stretch left in North America, and a pretty drive.

I-70, at 424 miles, is the longest interstate in Kansas. It runs from near Kanorado on the Colorado line through Goodland, Colby, Hays, Salina and Junction City before reaching Topeka and Kansas City. I-135 runs about 96 miles to join I-70 at Salina and the turnpike at Wichita, so it is the connector between the state's two main roads.

Motorcycle Shipping to Kansas by Season

Spring is the season to watch. Kansas gets its worst weather in spring and early summer, and the hail that comes with severe thunderstorms is the part that matters to bike owners. Open trailers get no cover, so a new or custom bike is a case for enclosed. Storms also hold trucks, sometimes overnight.

Summer is busy everywhere. Fall is a good time to ship, with steady weather and decent availability. Winter snow varies a lot across the state, from about 5 inches a year in the south to about 35 in the far northwest, so a pickup out near Goodland is the one most likely to slip.

The Flint Hills Stampede and Other Kansas Rides

The ride Kansas riders talk about is the Flint Hills Stampede in Council Grove, put on by the Backroads Touring Kansas Association. It is a three-day gathering for dual sport and adventure touring riders, and it began in 2005. The 20th anniversary event in 2025 ran the weekend of June 6 to 8, with the main day on the Saturday and the base at the Morris County fairgrounds.

If your bike is going there, plan for the last mile. Council Grove is a small town (about 2,100 people at the 2020 census) and the seat of Morris County, and the carrier will want a spot with room, not a gravel pull-off. The Flint Hills Scenic Byway, K-177 from Cassoday north to Council Grove, is the paved road into the same country.

Rally weeks and busy weekends can raise prices, usually on popular lanes, so ask for quotes a few weeks ahead. Riders in Wichita or Kansas City who head for Sturgis in August are best off asking for quotes by early summer.

Moving a Bike to McConnell or Fort Riley

McConnell Air Force Base is the home of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing, and Fort Riley is the home of the 1st Infantry Division. Both bring people in and out on orders. Get quotes as soon as you have a report date, and ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount.

Kansas Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Weather and rural distance cause most of the problems. A few habits keep them small.

Hail and Spring Storms

Severe thunderstorms can drop hail on an open trailer and hold a truck overnight. Spring and early summer are the risk window.

Thin Western Interstate

West of Salina, I-70 is the only through road. Pickups away from the interstate may have to wait for a carrier who happens to be passing.

Turnpike Routing

The turnpike is the main road through Wichita and Topeka, so a delivery away from it can add time. Ask which exit the driver plans to use.

Tip: Flexibility Saves Money

Give carriers a window of three or four days, and quotes may come in lower.

Tip: Think Enclosed in Storm Season

If the bike is new or freshly painted, enclosed is worth pricing in spring and early summer when hail is possible.

Tip: Document the Bike

Photograph every side with the date, remove loose bags, and keep the tank low. The prep checklist covers the details.

Kansas Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Kansas?

A run from Dallas to Wichita, about 365 miles, is typically $350 to $500 on an open trailer. A trip from Phoenix to Topeka, about 1,145 miles, is about $525 to $725. Enclosed adds roughly 40%.

How long does shipping from Los Angeles to Wichita take?

The haul is about 1,380 miles and usually takes 3 to 6 days on the road. Add one to three days for pickup scheduling.

Can a carrier deliver to Wichita?

Yes. Wichita is on I-35 and the Kansas Turnpike. McConnell Air Force Base is about four miles southeast of downtown, so say whether the pickup is on base.

Do tolls on the Kansas Turnpike raise my price?

The turnpike went cashless in July 2024 and bills by transponder or by license plate, so you do not pay at the road. Tolls are the carrier's concern. Ask whether the quote already covers them.

Is hail a concern for open transport?

It can be in spring. Kansas is prone to severe weather in spring and early summer. Enclosed protects the bike, at a cost of roughly 40% more.

Can I ship a bike to the Flint Hills Stampede?

Yes, though Council Grove is a small town. The 2025 event was the first weekend of June, so check the association for this year's date. Book a few weeks ahead, and ask the carrier where it will meet you.

I live near Fort Riley. Is shipping different?

Not much. Fort Riley sits between Junction City and Manhattan, and Junction City is on I-70. Tell the carrier if the bike is on post, and ask whether it has a military discount.

What if the bike does not run?

Tell the dispatcher when you request quotes. A non-running bike needs a driver with a winch, and some carriers charge extra for it.
