Ship a Motorcycle to Florida, and Choose Your End of the Peninsula
"Florida" is a big target. A carrier unloading in Pensacola is closer to Birmingham than to Miami, and a bike going to Key West is a whole different trip from one going to Jacksonville. Tell the carrier the city, not just the state, and quotes will come back closer to what you actually pay.
Most bikes arriving from the Northeast and Midwest end up in one of four places: Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa Bay or Jacksonville. New York to Miami is about 1,290 miles and a typical open quote is $550 to $775 with 3 to 6 days on the road. Chicago to Orlando is about 1,155 miles at $525 to $725. From the West Coast, Los Angeles to Tampa is around 2,530 miles, $825 to $1,150 on an open trailer, and 7 to 10 days. If your delivery address is in Miami, the metro page has a few extra details on pickups and drop-offs there.
The last mile is usually the snag. Some condos, gated communities and HOA streets keep big trucks out, and a tractor-trailer cannot always make the turn into a tight cul-de-sac either. Plan on meeting the driver at a shopping center or big parking lot nearby, and make sure someone can sign for the bike.
Lanes worth pricing first: New York to Florida, Illinois to Florida and California to Florida.
Florida Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times
Last updated: October 2026
Distance drives the price more than the state does. A standard bike on an open trailer runs about $375 to $525 over roughly 500 miles, about $500 to $675 over 1,000 miles and about $725 to $1,000 over 2,000. Per-mile cost drops as the trip gets longer, which is why Los Angeles to Tampa costs only a few hundred dollars more than Chicago to Orlando. Short runs inside the state, like Jacksonville to Miami at about 345 miles, sit near the bottom of the range at $350 to $475.
Enclosed adds roughly 30% to 50%. A crate adds about $150 to $400, a trike or sidecar about $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer such as a Gold Wing about $50 to $100. Fall and rally weeks tend to be the top of the range, when quotes usually sit highest. Prices below are for a standard bike on an open trailer. Days are time on the road after pickup, so add one to three days for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works
You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Florida lanes, and the offers come back to you.
1. Send one request
Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.
2. Carriers respond
We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Florida. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.
3. Compare the offers
Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.
4. Choose your company
You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.
Shipping a Motorcycle From Florida When the Snowbirds Head Home
Spring flips the traffic. By March the retirees and winter residents start sending bikes back to the Northeast and Midwest, and trailers going north out of Florida fill up. If you are one of them, request quotes early and give the carrier a pickup window of a week or so, not a single day.
From South Florida the northbound bikes can run up I-95 or the Turnpike. From the Gulf side they can take I-75, and from the Panhandle they can cut over to I-10 and I-65. Florida to New York, Florida to Pennsylvania and Florida to Illinois are three northbound lanes to price. March and April are the crunch.
Heading west is different. Jacksonville to Houston is about 870 miles, quoted at $475 to $650 open, with 2 to 5 days in transit. Orlando to Dallas is about 1,090 miles and $525 to $700. Those lanes run along I-10, and a dispatcher may need an extra day or two to find a trailer that is not already full.
If the buyer lives out of state, check the Florida to Georgia and Florida to Texas pages for those lanes.
Florida Motorcycle Transport on I-95, the Turnpike and the Keys
Three roads carry most of the freight. I-95 runs up the east coast through Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville. I-75 does the same job on the Gulf side, running past Tampa on its east side and then north toward Georgia. Florida's Turnpike takes a third path up the middle of the peninsula from the Miami area toward Orlando, and it is a toll road, which carriers factor into the quote.
I-4 is the connector. It links Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach, and it is where a bike bound for the rally weeks tends to end up. I-10 crosses the Panhandle through Pensacola and Tallahassee and carries the Texas and Alabama traffic.
The Keys are their own thing. The Overseas Highway, US 1, runs more than 100 miles from the mainland to Key West and is two lanes for much of the way. A driver hauling a full trailer is not going to hurry on it. If you are shipping to or from Marathon, Islamorada or Key West, ask each carrier whether it delivers all the way or meets you on the mainland, and expect a longer window.
Motorcycle Shipping to Florida by Season
Florida breaks the usual rule that winter is the cheap time to ship. Southbound demand rises in September, runs high in October and peaks in November, so space into the state is tight then. Northbound demand peaks in March and stays high in April.
Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, and activity peaks from late August through September. When a storm is forecast, carriers may stop loading, roads can fill with evacuees and a pickup can slip by days. Keep your dates loose from August through October, and do not plan to have a bike delivered to a coastal address the week a storm is projected to come ashore.
Summer is the rainy season, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. A tank that is near a quarter full and a cover that fits well are worth the small effort.
Daytona Bike Week, Biketoberfest and Other Reasons to Ship In
Two rallies shape the calendar. Daytona Beach Bike Week runs ten days in March, and Biketoberfest fills Daytona Beach again in October. The Bike Week roots go back to 1937 and the Daytona 200 race. Read more on the Daytona rally page and the Biketoberfest page.
If you want a bike there without riding it from Ohio, shipping works well. The catch is timing. Carriers know these weeks are coming, trailers fill early, and rally-week prices sit above normal on busy lanes. Book three weeks ahead if you can. Daytona itself gets crowded, so many riders pick a delivery point in Orlando or Jacksonville and ride the rest. Check with the hotel too, because a front desk may not accept a motorcycle delivery.
I-95 and I-4 meet at Daytona Beach, so the traffic comes from both directions. Bikes from the Midwest usually arrive through Orlando, and bikes from the Northeast run down I-95.
Military Moves to Florida Bases
Florida has a long list of installations. MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Eglin Air Force Base in the western Panhandle and Patrick Space Force Base on the Space Coast all bring service members in on short orders. Orders often come with a tight deadline, so put the report date in your request and get quotes the day you have it. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount, since some do and others do not.
Florida Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips
Hurricanes and gated streets cause most of the trouble. A few habits cut it down.
Hurricane Season
From June through November a storm can shut down loading and fill the highways. Activity peaks from late August through September.
Gated Communities and Condos
Some Florida complexes bar large trucks. The driver may ask you to meet at a retail parking lot and ride or push the bike the last stretch.
The Keys' Single Road
US 1 is the road to Key West, and it is two lanes for long stretches. Deliveries there take longer, and some carriers meet you on the mainland.
Tip: Name the City, Not the State
Florida is long enough that Pensacola and Miami are different shipments. Give the carrier the exact delivery city so the quote matches the real drive.
Tip: Book Rally Weeks Early
For Bike Week in March or Biketoberfest in October, request quotes three weeks out. Trailers fill and rates rise as the dates get close.
Tip: Cover the Basics Before Pickup
Remove loose bags and phone mounts, and keep the tank near a quarter full. Take dated photos from every side. The prep checklist has the full list.
Florida Motorcycle Shipping FAQs
What does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Florida?
It depends on where the bike starts. A standard bike on an open trailer runs about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000 miles. Fall and rally weeks cost more. Enclosed adds roughly 40%, and your own quote will depend on the bike and the dates.
How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from New York to Florida?
New York to Miami is about 1,290 miles, which usually means 3 to 6 days on the road after pickup. Add one to three days for scheduling, so most owners see the bike within a week to ten days of booking. A West Coast origin takes longer.
Can a carrier deliver to the Florida Keys?
Some can. The Overseas Highway is a long two-lane road, so carriers often charge more or meet you on the mainland. Say Key West, Marathon or Islamorada when you ask for quotes, and compare what each carrier offers. Allow extra days either way.
Is it cheaper to ship a bike to Florida in summer?
Often a little, since fewer snowbirds are moving then. But summer brings storms and hurricane season. Cheaper is not always faster, so keep your dates open and avoid tight deadlines from late summer on.
Can I ship a bike to Daytona for Bike Week?
Yes. Request quotes about three weeks before the rally, and think about a delivery point in Orlando or Jacksonville. Trailers fill early for March and for Biketoberfest in October, and rally week prices run higher. Ask each carrier about its pickup window.
What happens if a hurricane is headed for my pickup address?
The carrier will usually reschedule. Roads fill with evacuees, and drivers stop loading until the storm passes. Tell the dispatcher about any storm warnings, and be ready to move the pickup to a different city inland. Keep your phone on and your dates loose.
Will a driver come into my gated community?
Often not. Some complexes ban large trucks, and some streets are too tight for a tractor-trailer. Expect to meet the driver at a parking lot close by. Ask the carrier before the pickup day, not on it, and keep the gate code handy.
Should I ship the bike both ways each year?
Some snowbirds do, since the ride is long. Ask for quotes for each direction separately, and ask each carrier whether it has any multi-bike or return-trip pricing. Prices can change between spring and fall.
