California to New Hampshire Motorcycle Shipping Rates by Bike Type

A standard cruiser or sport bike from Los Angeles to Manchester runs about $925 to $1,275 on an open carrier, and about $1,300 to $1,775 enclosed. San Diego comes out about the same at $925 to $1,275 open, and a San Francisco pickup runs about $950 to $1,325.

Three thousand miles of interstate is a lot to put on your own odometer.

Concord, up I-93 from Manchester, costs about the same, near $925 to $1,300 open. Portsmouth, on the coast and close to I-95, runs about $925 to $1,300. Nashua is a short drive south of Manchester, so a carrier reaches all three without a detour.

A heavy tourer adds roughly $50 to $100. Trikes and sidecar outfits add $150 to $300, and a bike that will not run needs a winch, which dispatch should hear about first.

The calendar is simple. Spring brings bikes north, June brings the rally, summer is the riding season, and fall sends bikes south. Winter is the quietest market, and quotes outside the snowbird lanes often run lower from fall through winter. The June premium is real. See our money-saving tips for more.

From the Coast to the Notches

I-93 is the state's spine. It enters from Massachusetts at Salem, passes Manchester and Concord, and then heads north into the White Mountains. I-293 loops around Manchester. I-89 splits off at Bow, just south of Concord, and runs west toward Vermont, meeting I-91 at White River Junction. I-95 touches only the seacoast, around Portsmouth.

Fly into Manchester or Boston and pick the bike up when it arrives.

Portsmouth is the odd one out. It sits on the coast and is a short drive from the Maine line, so if a carrier is already working a Maine pickup, it is close to the route.

The White Mountains need patience. North of Concord, I-93 runs into the mountains, and the roads beyond are two-lane. Lincoln, Conway and the smaller towns around them can be tricky for a tractor-trailer in winter. The Kancamagus Highway, NH-112, is about 32 miles from Lincoln to Conway and a favorite fall ride, but carriers stick to interstates, so a pickup near it probably means meeting in Lincoln or Conway.

US Route 3 is the road to know in the Lakes Region. It runs through Laconia, Weirs Beach and Meredith, so in rally week plan on delay if your address is anywhere along it.

How Your Motorcycle Is Loaded and Secured for the Trip

Red sport motorcycle strapped down on a wooden crate base, California to New Hampshire motorcycle shipping crate
Here the bike is tied onto a crate base, which is available on this lane for roughly $150 to $400.

A good driver loads a motorcycle upright. The front wheel goes into a chock so it can't move, and soft straps go around solid points like the frame or the lower triple clamp. The straps are tightened enough to hold the bike but not so much that they bottom out the forks. Hooks stay off your bars, levers and paint.

Enclosed trailers add a roof and walls, and over a trip of nearly 3,000 miles they cover the bike through a week of weather. Open carriers are still the standard choice for most bikes. When the driver arrives, check the bike against the condition report before you sign. You will want that report and your photos when the bike arrives in New Hampshire.

California to New Hampshire Motorcycle Shipping Challenges & Tips

New Hampshire has a rally week and a snowy mountain country. Plan around both.

Rally Week in June

If your bike is going to the Lakes Region in the middle of June, assume trailers are booked and roads are slow. Elsewhere in the state, the job is ordinary.

Snow in the Mountains

A snowstorm on I-93 can hold a trailer for a day, and mountain towns may need extra time. Give the carrier a window.

Notch and Village Roads

Two-lane roads in the White Mountains are tough on a tractor-trailer. Expect to meet at a lot in Lincoln, Conway or another larger town.

Tip: Heading to Laconia Motorcycle Week?

The week runs about nine days each June around Weirs Beach on Lake Winnipesaukee, and it began in 1916. Get quotes two to three weeks ahead, choose a meeting point away from the strip such as a lot in Laconia or Meredith, and book the trip home when you book the trip in.

Tip: Moving to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard?

The shipyard is across the Piscataqua River in Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth is the nearest town on the New Hampshire side. A move on orders leaves little slack, so get quotes as soon as you have a report date, and ask each carrier about a military discount.

Tip: Prepare Your Motorcycle

Take off saddlebags, mounts and anything that clips on. Keep the tank near a quarter, silence the alarm and shoot dated photos from all angles. Say whether the address is in the Lakes Region or the mountains, and name a lot nearby. Our guide to preparing a motorcycle for transport has the full checklist.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to New Hampshire?

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to New Hampshire from California?

A standard cruiser or sport bike from Los Angeles to Manchester runs about $925 to $1,275 on an open carrier and about $1,300 to $1,775 enclosed. From San Francisco the open range is about $950 to $1,325. Real prices depend on your bike, dates and cities.

Which New Hampshire cities do carriers deliver to?

Manchester, Concord, Nashua and Portsmouth see the most bikes. Manchester and Concord sit on I-93, and the White Mountains and Lakes Region take more scheduling.

Can I ship my motorcycle to Laconia Motorcycle Week?

Yes. Book two to three weeks ahead, choose a meeting point away from the strip, and expect higher prices on busy lanes. Book the trip home at the same time.

How should I prepare my motorcycle for shipping from California to New Hampshire?

Give it a wash, strip off soft luggage and loose gear, and leave the tank near a quarter. Take dated photos of each side and warn the dispatcher if it does not run.

Should I ride my motorcycle from California to New Hampshire or ship it?

Riding means about 2,960 miles from Los Angeles to Manchester, about six or seven long days in the saddle. Add fuel, hotels and wear and the gap to shipping shrinks.

Do I need to crate my motorcycle for this trip?

Not often. A bike tied down properly arrives in New Hampshire in good shape on either kind of trailer. Crating adds roughly $150 to $400, mostly for rare or show bikes. Ask each carrier.

Is door-to-door motorcycle delivery available from California to New Hampshire?

Yes, at most addresses. On narrow village roads and in the White Mountains, the driver may ask you to meet at a lot on a main road.
