California to Florida Motorcycle Shipping Rates by Bike Type
Shipping a standard cruiser or sport bike from Los Angeles to Orlando runs about $825 to $1,150 on an open carrier, and about $1,150 to $1,600 enclosed. Jacksonville is the lowest-priced drop at about $800 to $1,125 open. Miami runs about $875 to $1,225, because the truck drives another 225 miles or so down the peninsula.
Florida is a long-haul lane with a twist. Southbound demand rises in September, runs high in October and peaks in November. Northbound demand peaks in March and stays high in April. California traffic rides on top of that, so winter is not the discount season here that it is for other states. Peak weeks usually cost more.
The usual add-ons apply. Heavier bikes add to the base, often $50 to $100 for a tourer and $150 to $300 for a trike or sidecar. Non-running bikes need a winch. Enclosed adds roughly 40%. For a long trip through desert, Texas wind and Gulf rain, many owners of custom paint and vintage bikes pay it.
To keep the price down, give the carrier a pickup window of a few days and book a few weeks ahead. See our money-saving tips or the general motorcycle shipping rates page.

The Long Run Along I-10
Interstate 10 starts in Santa Monica and ends in Jacksonville, so a driver leaving Los Angeles can set the cruise control and spend nearly the whole trip on one road. It passes Phoenix, Tucson and El Paso, then crosses Texas for about 880 miles, much of it open desert, before reaching San Antonio and Houston. From there it goes on through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.
In Florida the choices open up. I-10 runs on past Pensacola and Tallahassee. A truck bound for Jacksonville stays on it. A truck headed for Tampa or Orlando turns south on I-75, and Miami freight can use I-75 or Florida's Turnpike, which is a toll road that carriers build into the quote.
Out of the Bay Area the truck covers roughly 390 more miles in total, which is why the San Francisco row in the table runs about 390 miles above Los Angeles to Orlando.
The Keys are their own thing. The Overseas Highway, US 1, runs more than 100 miles from the mainland to Key West and is two lanes for much of the way. If your bike is going to Marathon, Islamorada or Key West, ask each carrier whether it delivers all the way or meets you on the mainland.

How Your Motorcycle Is Loaded and Secured for the Trip
A good driver loads a motorcycle upright. The front wheel goes into a chock so it can't move, and soft straps go around solid points like the frame or the lower triple clamp. The straps are tightened enough to hold the bike but not so much that they bottom out the forks. Hooks stay off your bars, levers and paint.
Enclosed trailers add a roof and walls, and on this route that means desert sun, Texas wind and Gulf Coast rain all stay off the bike. At pickup, walk around the bike with the driver and read the condition report. Keep it with your dated photos, and compare both when the bike reaches Florida.
California to Florida Motorcycle Shipping Challenges & Tips
Three things can slow this trip. Three more can save you money or trouble. Plan around them before you book.
Hurricane Season
Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, and activity peaks from late August through September. A storm can shut down loading and fill the highways, and a pickup can slip by days. Keep your dates loose from August through October.
Gated Communities and Condos
Some Florida complexes bar large trucks. The driver may ask you to meet at a retail parking lot and ride or push the bike the last stretch.
West Texas and the Gulf
I-10 across Texas runs about 880 miles with few detours, and the Gulf stretch has long bridges and busy cities. A breakdown or a wreck can cost a day.
Tip: Book Early for Daytona Weeks
If you are shipping for Daytona Bike Week in March or Biketoberfest in October, book three weeks ahead if you can. Many riders pick a delivery point in Orlando or Jacksonville and ride the rest, since Daytona itself gets crowded.
Tip: Plan for Snowbird Season
Southbound demand rises in September, runs high in October and peaks in November, so space into the state is tight then. Northbound demand peaks in March and stays high in April.
Tip: Prepare Your Motorcycle
Wash the bike, strip off anything loose, and keep the tank at a quarter or less. Turn off the alarm and take dated photos of every side. Summer in Florida is the rainy season, and a tank near a quarter full plus a cover that fits well are worth the small effort. Our guide to preparing a motorcycle for transport has the full checklist.
California to Florida Motorcycle Shipping Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to Florida?
Most California to Florida shipments take 6 to 10 days once the bike is on the truck. Jacksonville is at the short end and Miami can take the full 10. Add a few days for pickup scheduling, and more during hurricane season. Allow two to three weeks from booking to delivery.
How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Florida from California?
A standard cruiser or sport bike from Los Angeles to Orlando runs about $825 to $1,150 on an open carrier and about $1,150 to $1,600 enclosed. Jacksonville comes in lower and Miami higher. Real prices depend on your bike, dates and cities.
Is open or enclosed transport better for this route?
Open is the standard choice and fine for most bikes. On a trip of 2,500 miles through desert heat and Gulf rain, enclosed makes sense for fresh paint, a classic or a high-value bike. For a stock bike, open is usually enough.
Which Florida cities do carriers deliver to?
Miami, Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville see the most bikes, and Fort Lauderdale, Tallahassee and Pensacola are served too. The Keys take longer, and some carriers meet you on the mainland.
Can I ship my motorcycle to Daytona Bike Week or Biketoberfest?
Yes. Book three weeks ahead if you can, because trailers fill early for both events and prices run above normal on busy lanes. Many riders pick a drop in Orlando or Jacksonville and ride the rest.
How should I prepare my motorcycle for shipping from California to Florida?
Wash the bike, take off anything loose, and run the tank down to about a quarter. Photograph all sides with the date, note leaks, and tell the dispatcher if the bike does not run.
Should I ride my motorcycle from California to Florida or ship it?
That is about 2,500 miles from Los Angeles to Orlando, about five long days for a rider on interstates. Fuel, hotels and tire wear add up, so many owners ship the bike and fly in.
Do I need to crate my motorcycle for this trip?
Usually not. Open and enclosed trailers both carry bikes to Florida every week without crates. A crate adds roughly $150 to $400 and is mostly for show bikes and rare machines. Ask whether the carrier offers one.
Is door-to-door motorcycle delivery available from California to Florida?
Yes, at most addresses. Condos and gated communities sometimes bar large trucks, and the driver will ask you to meet at a parking lot.
Can I call for a quote at any hour?
Yes, day or night. Call 1-800-590-6492, or send the quote form at the top of this page and compare up to ten offers.
