Ship a Motorcycle to Vermont, Down to the Last Dirt Road
In Vermont the first question about a delivery is the road. Is it paved? How steep? Is there a place to turn a full-size trailer? If you live in Burlington, Montpelier or Rutland, the answer is usually simple and the driver can reach a main street. Burlington sits on Lake Champlain and is the biggest of the three, with about 45,000 people. Rutland has about 15,800 and Montpelier about 8,100. If you live on a hill road in the middle of the state, it may not be.
A common fix is a meeting point on a main road. A grocery lot, a feed store, a town garage with room to swing. Tell the carrier at booking, and the driver can plan the stop instead of discovering the problem at 4 p.m.
Dirt roads deserve a mention. Some Vermont addresses sit on gravel, and some towns post weight limits on gravel roads when the ground thaws in spring, aimed at tractor-trailers and other heavy trucks. Ask the carrier what they'd like you to do in early spring.

Vermont Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times
Last updated: October 2026
On an open carrier, a standard bike costs about $325 to $450 for a trip of 200 to 250 miles, like Burlington to Boston. At 1,000 miles the range is $500 to $675, at 1,500 miles it is $600 to $850, and at 2,500 miles it is $825 to $1,150.
Enclosed adds roughly 30% to 50%, which suits custom paint or a classic on a winter move. A crate costs $150 to $400 extra, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer often $50 to $100. The table shows lanes that start or end in Vermont. Prices are for a standard bike on open transport, and transit time counts days on the road after pickup. Scheduling adds one to three days.

How Getting Quotes Works
You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Vermont lanes, and the offers come back to you.
1. Send one request
Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.
2. Carriers respond
We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Vermont. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.
3. Compare the offers
Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.
4. Choose your company
You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.
Shipping a Motorcycle From Vermont to Warmer Places
Fall is when many riders send bikes south for the winter. Burlington to Fort Lauderdale takes 4 to 8 days on the road, and the Vermont to Florida lane is worth pricing in September. Don't wait for the first snow to ask for quotes.
West is longer. Montpelier to Phoenix takes 7 to 10 days, and Burlington to Denver is about 1,910 miles, 4 to 8 days. Rutland to Chicago takes 2 to 5. For anything over 800 miles, offer a pickup window of several days, since a flexible date gives the carrier room to fit your bike in.
Closer to home, Burlington to Boston is about 215 miles and 1 to 3 days. Look at the Vermont to Massachusetts and Vermont to New York routes if you're moving a bike to a friend or a new job.
Vermont Motorcycle Transport on I-91, I-89 and Route 100
I-91 is the long one. Its Vermont stretch, about 177 miles, starts at the Massachusetts line, passes Brattleboro and White River Junction, then runs up to St. Johnsbury, Newport and the border at Derby Line. I-89 meets it at White River Junction and carries traffic toward Montpelier and Burlington, then runs on to the Canadian border at Highgate Springs. In Vermont it covers about 130 miles and is the only Interstate that directly serves both Montpelier, the capital, and Burlington, the largest city.
Route 100 is a different animal. It runs about 217 miles from the Massachusetts line along the eastern edge of the Green Mountain National Forest, past Wilmington, Killington, Waitsfield and Stowe. Carriers will mostly stay on the interstates and US highways. If you live on Route 100, plan to meet in a lot a few miles from your door.
US-7 is the main road on the west side. It links Bennington, Rutland and Burlington. US-4 runs east from Rutland through Killington and Woodstock to White River Junction, so it is a way across the middle of the state between the US-7 side and I-91. Killington and Stowe, both on Route 100, are ski towns, so a winter pickup near either should get a wide window.
Motorcycle Shipping to Vermont by Season
Winter and the spring thaw are the two seasons to plan around in Vermont.
Winter snow can make a back road hard to reach. If you must ship in January, ask for a longer window and a meeting point on a plowed main road. Outside the snowbird lanes, quotes are often cheaper in the cold months.
Spring needs care. The thaw leaves dirt roads soft, and some towns post weight limits on them for heavy trucks and sometimes close a muddy road. Ask for quotes about a month ahead of the date you want your bike home.
Rallies and Rides Around Vermont
Vermont has a few small gatherings. The Iron Adventure H.O.G. Rally is held in Ludlow in July, and the BMW Motorcycle Owners of Vermont hold the Green Mountain Rally at Camp Thorpe in Goshen in September.
The big event within reach is Laconia Motorcycle Week, held every June in Laconia, New Hampshire, with Weirs Beach as its starting point. It began in 1916 and runs nine days. From Vermont it's a trip across the Connecticut River into New Hampshire.
Plenty of riders just ride over. If the bike can't, the Vermont to New Hampshire haul is short, and rally weeks can lift the price. Book two to three weeks ahead.
Beyond New England, riders send bikes to Daytona from late February into March and to Sturgis in August. Biketoberfest is held in October.
Vermont Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips
Vermont's problems come from its roads and its calendar. A little planning handles both.
Hill Roads and Gravel
Steep, narrow or unpaved roads can stop a tractor-trailer. Expect to meet the driver on a main road.
Snow and Plow Schedules
A storm can close a road for a day and hold a trailer. Winter pickups need a wide window.
Thaw on Back Roads
In spring the ground softens and some towns post weight limits on dirt roads. A carrier may ask you to meet at pavement.
Tip: Tell Them the Road Type
When you ask for quotes, say whether your road is paved, steep or gravel. It saves a call on pickup day and avoids a surprise. Say so even if it seems minor.
Tip: Ask for Southbound Quotes in September
Ask for quotes in September, not at the first frost. That gives carriers time to fit your bike in. Ask early and the dispatcher has room to match your bike to a trailer already heading your way.
Tip: Check the Battery and Take Photos
Make sure the battery holds a charge, run the tank near a quarter full, and take dated photos from every side. The prep guide covers the details.
Vermont Motorcycle Shipping FAQs
How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle from Burlington to Boston?
Burlington to Boston is about 215 miles. A standard bike on an open carrier runs about $325 to $450, and enclosed about $450 to $625. Transit is 1 to 3 days on the road, plus a day or two to schedule the pickup.
Can a carrier pick up from a gravel road?
Often not at the door. A tractor-trailer can't always turn around or hold up on soft gravel. Ask the carrier, then offer a meeting point on pavement nearby.
What does it cost to ship from Vermont to Florida?
Burlington to Fort Lauderdale runs about $600 to $850 on an open carrier, and about $850 to $1,200 enclosed. Expect 4 to 8 days on the road after pickup.
Is it hard to ship a bike in winter in Vermont?
It's slower. Snow can move a pickup by a day or two. Choose a main-road meeting point and a wider window. Quotes outside the snowbird lanes are often cheaper.
How do I ship a bike from Vermont to Phoenix?
Phoenix is about 2,565 miles from Burlington. From Montpelier, a standard bike on an open carrier runs about $850 to $1,175. Plan on 7 to 10 days on the road. Give the carrier a pickup window of several days.
Can I ship a bike to Laconia Motorcycle Week from Vermont?
Yes. The rally is held in June in Laconia, New Hampshire. Rally weeks cost more, so book two to three weeks ahead.
Do I need to be present at pickup and delivery?
Carriers usually need you or an adult you name to sign the condition report at both ends. Ask each carrier what it requires, and look the bike over before you sign.
Does a bike need to run to be shipped?
Often, yes, but say so when you ask for quotes. A bike that does not run is handled differently, and carriers may charge for it. Telling the dispatcher early avoids a surprise.
