California to Georgia Motorcycle Shipping Rates by Bike Type
A standard cruiser or sport bike from Los Angeles to Atlanta runs about $750 to $1,050 on an open carrier, and about $1,050 to $1,475 enclosed. Savannah is farther and costs a little more, at about $800 to $1,125 open. From San Francisco to Atlanta, expect roughly $825 to $1,150.
Atlanta is a freight hub, and that helps. Roads run in every direction, and a carrier finishing a drop in the city may have room on a truck heading back out. Savannah and Augusta get fewer trucks, so a quote to the coast may come with a longer wait for pickup or delivery.
Bike type adds to the base. Tourers and Gold Wings often add $50 to $100, trikes and sidecars add $150 to $300, and a bike that does not run needs a winch. Enclosed adds roughly 40%.
Georgia sits on the Florida run, so fall and spring trailers carry snowbird bikes passing through. If you are shipping in those months, a carrier already heading your way may have space. Ask each one what is leaving that week. Our money-saving tips have more on timing.

From the Pacific to Atlanta on I-10 and I-20
A truck out of Los Angeles takes I-10 east through Arizona and New Mexico into West Texas. There it picks up I-20, which runs through Fort Worth and Dallas, across Louisiana and Mississippi, and into Alabama. In Alabama it passes Birmingham before it reaches Georgia and Atlanta.
Once in Georgia the roads fan out. I-20 crosses the state east to west, from Alabama through Atlanta to Augusta. I-75 is the long north-south road, running 355 miles from the Florida line through Macon and Atlanta to Tennessee. I-85 heads up toward South Carolina. For Savannah, I-16 is the spur from Macon, and I-95 runs the coast.
Out of the Bay Area the truck covers roughly 310 more miles than from Los Angeles, and that is where the higher San Francisco row comes from. San Diego loads come out slightly cheaper, since that truck starts closer to I-10.
Atlanta traffic is the usual slow spot. I-75, I-85 and I-285 jam at rush hour, so ask for a delivery window and not a set hour. Deliveries to the North Georgia mountains, near Dahlonega or Helen, mean meeting the driver in town, since the roads riders love are not the ones a trailer uses.

3. Compare the offers

4. Choose your company
You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.
How Your Motorcycle Is Loaded and Secured for the Trip
A good driver loads a motorcycle upright. The front wheel goes into a chock so it can't move, and soft straps go around solid points like the frame or the lower triple clamp. The straps are tightened enough to hold the bike but not so much that they bottom out the forks. Hooks stay off your bars, levers and paint.
Enclosed trailers add a roof and walls, and on a trip of more than 2,000 miles they keep desert sun and Gulf storms off the bike. Look the bike over with the driver at pickup and read the condition report before signing. Your photos and that report are the records to check when the bike arrives in Georgia.
California to Georgia Motorcycle Shipping Challenges & Tips
Georgia deliveries have a few quirks of their own. Plan for these before you book.
Atlanta Traffic
I-75, I-85 and I-285 jam at rush hour, so ask for a delivery window and not a set hour.
Coastal Storms
The Atlantic hurricane season starts in June and ends in November. A storm near Savannah or Brunswick can disrupt I-95 and I-16 and delay drops. Inland pickups are less exposed.
Savannah Squares
Savannah's historic district is built around 22 squares, and a full-size trailer may not want to thread through them. Plan to meet the driver at a larger lot a short way off.
Tip: Ship In for Road Atlanta
Road Atlanta, near Braselton and northeast of the city, hosts the Petit Le Mans endurance race in October. MotoAmerica Superbikes also race there, in April. Book early for those weeks, and give the carrier a pickup window of a few days.
Tip: Military Moves
Georgia has several big installations, including Fort Stewart, Fort Benning and Robins Air Force Base. Mention the base when you request quotes, and ask whether the driver can come on post or prefers a lot outside the gate.
Tip: Prepare Your Motorcycle
Take off saddlebags and mounts, keep the fuel at about a quarter tank, disable the alarm and take dated photos from every side. Spring brings yellow pollen that can coat paint and chrome, so a cover is cheap protection once the bike arrives. Our guide to preparing a motorcycle for transport has the full checklist.
California to Georgia Motorcycle Shipping Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from California to Georgia?
Most California to Georgia shipments take 6 to 9 days once the bike is on the truck. Atlanta is at the short end and Savannah can take longer. Add a few days for pickup scheduling, and allow two weeks or more from booking to delivery.
How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to Georgia from California?
A standard cruiser or sport bike from Los Angeles to Atlanta runs about $750 to $1,050 on an open carrier and about $1,050 to $1,475 enclosed. Savannah costs a little more. Real prices depend on your bike, dates and cities.
Is open or enclosed transport better for this route?
Open is the standard choice and fine for most bikes. On a trip of more than 2,000 miles, enclosed makes sense for fresh paint, a classic or a high-value bike. For a stock bike, open is usually enough.
Which Georgia cities do carriers deliver to?
Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta and Macon see the most bikes. Carriers deliver in smaller towns too, and mountain communities near Dahlonega or Helen often mean a handoff in town.
Can I ship my motorcycle to a race weekend at Road Atlanta?
Yes. The Petit Le Mans is held in October and MotoAmerica Superbikes race there in April. Book early, because trailers fill ahead of event weeks, and give the carrier a pickup window of a few days.
How should I prepare my motorcycle for shipping from California to Georgia?
Clean it, take off soft saddlebags and loose gear, and leave about a quarter tank. Dated photos from every side protect you, and the dispatcher should hear about any leak or a bike that will not run.
Should I ride my motorcycle from California to Georgia or ship it?
The ride runs about 2,170 miles from Los Angeles to Atlanta, which most riders cover in four or five long days. After fuel, hotels and tires, shipping is often close in price. Ride if you want the trip, ship if you want it simple.
Do I need to crate my motorcycle for this trip?
Most riders skip it. A bike strapped properly on an open trailer or loaded in an enclosed one gets to Georgia in good shape. Crating adds roughly $150 to $400 and suits show bikes and rare machines. Ask carriers about it.
Is door-to-door motorcycle delivery available from California to Georgia?
Usually, yes. Where the truck cannot turn around, the driver will ask you to meet at a larger lot nearby.
Can I call for a quote at any hour?
Yes. The phone, 1-800-590-6492, is answered 24 hours a day, and the form at the top of this page works at any hour too.
