Ship a Motorcycle to Maine, From Portland to the Far North
Look at a map before you book. Portland is about 110 miles from Boston. Bangor is 235 miles from Boston. Houlton, at the end of I-95, is far past that, and a bike headed to Aroostook County is a different shipment from one headed to a South Portland driveway.
That shows up in the schedule. Carriers like to build a trailer around one corridor, so a bike on the I-95 line from Kittery to Bangor gets picked up and dropped easily. A bike on the coast past Brunswick, or in the western lakes, may wait for a driver who happens to be heading that way.
Plan to meet at a big lot if your road is narrow. Some Maine houses sit down long drives or on dirt roads, and a tractor-trailer can't always get in. A feed store, a gas station with room to swing, or a town lot all work. Tell the carrier at booking.
The Florida to Maine, New York to Maine and Pennsylvania to Maine lanes are worth pricing first.
Maine Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times
Last updated: October 2026
The price depends on how far you are from the corridor. A standard bike on an open carrier runs about $300 to $400 for the 110-mile trip from Portland to Boston, $325 to $450 for around 250 miles, and $375 to $525 for 500. At 1,500 miles the range is $600 to $850, and at 3,000 miles it is $925 to $1,300.
Enclosed costs roughly 30% to 50% more. A crate is $150 to $400 extra, a trike or sidecar $150 to $300, and a heavy tourer $50 to $100. The table shows lanes into and out of Maine. Prices assume a standard bike on open transport, and days are on the road after pickup. Allow another one to three days for scheduling, and more for an address far from I-95.

How Getting Quotes Works
You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Maine lanes, and the offers come back to you.
1. Send one request
Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.
2. Carriers respond
We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Maine. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.
3. Compare the offers
Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.
4. Choose your company
You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.
Shipping a Motorcycle From Maine Before the First Snow
Maine winters are long, cold and very snowy, so a bike that is going south is best booked early in the fall. Portland to Tampa is about 1,425 miles and 3 to 6 days on the road. Portland to Charlotte is about 935 miles and 2 to 5 days. The Maine to Florida lane is the one to price first in early fall.
West is a very long haul. Augusta to Los Angeles is about 3,105 miles, 7 to 10 days. Carriers on those lanes may wait for a full trailer, so ask for a window of several days instead of a fixed date.
Short trips run to Boston. Bangor to Boston is about 235 miles and 1 to 3 days, and Portland to Boston is about 110 miles. The Maine to Massachusetts and Maine to New Hampshire lanes are the short ones.
Portland to Sturgis is about 1,935 miles and 4 to 8 days on the road. Riders who send a bike out for the August rally should book early and keep the pickup date loose.
Maine Motorcycle Transport on I-95, the Turnpike and I-295
The Maine Turnpike carries I-95 for about 109 miles, from Kittery to Augusta, and it is a toll road for most of that distance. At Scarborough, I-295 splits off toward downtown Portland and rejoins I-95 farther north near Gardiner. North of Augusta the turnpike ends, and I-95 runs on past Bangor to the border at Houlton.
US-1 follows the coast from Kittery through Portland, Brunswick and Ellsworth, and it is the scenic alternate to I-95. If you live on the coast past Brunswick, you may be asked to meet at a lot along US-1 or near the interstate.
Acadia National Park sits on Mount Desert Island near Bar Harbor, and Ellsworth, on US-1, is the town close to the park. A pickup in Bar Harbor or Ellsworth is workable but longer than one in Portland, and it may be scheduled around other stops. In the north, plan on a long lead time.
Motorcycle Shipping to Maine by Season
Maine winters are long, cold and very snowy, worst in the north and west, with milder weather along the coast. A cold-weather move is possible, but ask for a pickup window of several days. Quotes outside the snowbird lanes often fall in fall and winter.
That makes late winter a good time to arrange a spring arrival, if you can wait. Book a month ahead for May.
If the bike is heading south, book in early fall and don't wait for the first frost.
Rallies and Rides Within Reach of Maine
The big rally in the region is just over the line in New Hampshire. Laconia Motorcycle Week is held in June around Weirs Beach. The Loudon Classic road race, held at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, falls in the same stretch of June.
You may prefer to just ride down. If the bike needs a trailer, the Maine to New Hampshire run is a short job, though prices can climb in rally week. Book two to three weeks ahead.
Farther away, Daytona Bike Week in early March and Sturgis in August are the big ones farther away, and Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach runs in mid-October.
Moving on Orders to Kittery
Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is on Seavey Island at the mouth of the Piscataqua River in Kittery, at Maine's southern tip. It overhauls, repairs and refuels Navy submarines. If you are moving there on orders, get quotes as soon as you have a report date. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount. Some do, and it takes one question to find out. Kittery is right at the New Hampshire line, so pickups there sit on the same I-95 corridor as Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Maine Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips
Maine's challenges are distance from the highway and the winter calendar. Both are easier with a plan.
Long Last Miles
Coastal, lake and northern addresses can be a long way from I-95. Expect the driver to propose a meeting point nearer the highway.
Winter Roads
Maine winters are long and very snowy, especially in the north and west. A winter pickup needs a wider window.
Coastal Deliveries
US-1 along the coast is the scenic alternate to I-95, and a coastal delivery can take more time than one on the interstate. Ask the carrier how it plans to reach you.
Tip: Tell Them the Town
When you ask for quotes, say if you are on the I-95 corridor, the coast or the north. It changes how the carrier plans the trip.
Tip: Ask for September Dates
Request quotes for a southbound bike in early September, not at the first frost.
Tip: Prepare the Bike
Pull saddlebags and mounts, keep the tank near a quarter full, and take dated photos of every side. The prep checklist covers the rest.
Maine Motorcycle Shipping FAQs
How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle from Maine to Florida?
Portland to Tampa is about 1,425 miles. A standard bike on an open carrier runs about $575 to $825, and enclosed about $800 to $1,150. Expect 3 to 6 days on the road after pickup, plus a day or two for scheduling.
Will a carrier come to a house on a dirt road?
Sometimes not. A tractor-trailer can't always turn around on a dirt road or a long drive. Offer a meeting point such as a gas station or town lot, and tell the carrier when you book.
How long does it take to ship a bike from Maine to California?
Augusta to Los Angeles is about 3,105 miles. A standard bike on an open carrier runs about $950 to $1,325 and takes 7 to 10 days on the road. Allow a few more days to schedule pickup.
Is it cheaper to ship out of Maine in winter?
Often. Quotes outside the snowbird lanes commonly drop in fall and winter. Snow can push a pickup back, so give the carrier a wide window.
How much is it to ship a bike from New York to Bangor?
New York to Bangor is about 445 miles. An open carrier runs about $375 to $525, and enclosed about $525 to $725. Plan on 1 to 3 days on the road.
Can a bike be shipped to Acadia National Park?
It can be shipped to a nearby town such as Bar Harbor or Ellsworth. A pickup or drop there takes more scheduling than one in Portland. Ask the carrier how it plans to reach you.
Do I have to be there at delivery?
You or an adult you name must sign the condition report. Check it over before you sign.
Should I choose enclosed for a winter move?
For a stock bike, open usually works. Enclosed, at roughly 40% more, makes sense for custom paint or a classic, or a bike you'd rather keep out of winter rain and snow.
