Hawaii Motorcycle Shipping

Every bike that reaches Hawaii crosses roughly 2,000 miles of Pacific, and that changes how you plan the move. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. Your bike goes by truck to a West Coast port, rides on a ship (the ocean leg is quoted at about 5 to 7 days), and is picked up at the terminal on the island. If you want to ship a motorcycle to or from Hawaii, the ocean leg is the part you cannot skip, and it is why prices here do not follow a normal per-mile table. Hawaii motorcycle shipping to Honolulu, Maui and the Big Island runs through the main ports, and other islands can need an extra hop. Rates below are broker ranges, not fixed prices. Use the quote form at the top or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour.

Ship a Motorcycle to Hawaii: Truck, Port, Ship

The trip has three steps, and each one is a separate piece of the schedule. First a truck takes the bike to a West Coast port. Los Angeles, Oakland and Seattle are among the ports a major Hawaii ship line lists, including Los Angeles. Then the bike sails to Honolulu, Hilo or Kahului. Last, you pick it up at the terminal, or the carrier delivers it if you have paid for that.

The sailing is the short part, about 5 to 7 days. Add truck time, terminal processing and a wait for the next ship, and one broker page gives 10 to 21 days from pickup to availability. Plan on three weeks if you need the bike on a firm date.

One ocean carrier lashes each bike with at least four straps on the front and two on the rear, and inspects it before, during and after it moves to the ship. That is separate from a crate or container, which costs more.

Moving from the mainland? California to Hawaii is the most direct lane, since the ship line lists several California ports. Washington to Hawaii runs through Seattle, and longer hauls such as Texas to Hawaii add a cross-country truck leg first.

Hawaii Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

Hawaii can't be priced by the mile. One broker page lists about $900 to $1,800 for the state as a whole, with Honolulu usually near $1,000 to $1,500, Hilo $700 to $1,500 and Maui $800 to $2,200. One ocean carrier lists motorcycle service starting at $660, plus $100 if the bike needs a shipping skid. Those numbers do not line up neatly, so treat them as a guide and compare real quotes.

Several things push the price up. Crating adds roughly $150 to $400, a trike or sidecar adds $150 to $300, and a heavy touring bike adds $50 to $100. Delivery to a neighbor island adds a second sailing. The table below uses the broker ranges where I have a source, and says to ask where I do not.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Hawaii lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Hawaii. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Hawaii to the Mainland

Leaving the islands takes more paperwork than arriving. For one ocean carrier (Pasha Hawaii), you bring photo ID, the original registration and title (or notarized copies), and a notarized letter from your lender if the bike is financed. You also sign a declaration that the bike carries no soil, plants, live insects or produce. If the bike has a co-owner who will not be there, that owner writes a notarized letter too.

The bike has to be washed properly first. That carrier says it will not take a bike that fails the USDA cleaning rules, so a dirty undercarriage can get it turned away. Wash the engine, tires, fender wells and underside, and remove everything from the saddlebags.

On the far end, someone has to pick up the bike promptly, because that carrier charges storage for late pickup. If someone other than the named person collects it, that person needs a notarized authorization.

The public price lists I found cover mainland to island only. For Hawaii to California and the other return lanes, get real quotes and compare them.

Hawaii Motorcycle Transport Between Islands and Ports

Oahu has the biggest port. Interstate H-1 crosses it east to west, 27 miles from Kapolei to Kahala, and it passes the Pearl Harbor and Hickam exits and the airport on the way. Interstate H-3 is shorter, about 15 miles, and links the Halawa interchange near Pearl Harbor to the main gate of Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe, through the Koolau tunnels.

Maui and the Big Island are different. Kahului is the port for Maui and Hilo for the Big Island. One ship line lists Kauai, Molokai and Lanai among its ports. Broker pages say delivery to a neighbor island can add cost. Ask each carrier early how it handles the other islands.

Ask each carrier who covers the last leg. A quote to Honolulu does not always mean the bike reaches your door on another island, and you may end up handling a second terminal yourself.

Motorcycle Shipping to Hawaii by Season

A Rider magazine writer called the Big Island accessible to riders every day of the year, so the season matters more on the mainland end than in Hawaii. What changes is mainland demand and ship schedules.

Prices run higher in peak weeks on busy mainland lanes, and the truck leg to the port is where that shows up.

Fall and winter are often cheaper on mainland lanes, but a missed sailing costs more here than on land. If your date matters, add a week of cushion, and keep the bike ready to drop off on the appointment day.

Where the Bike Goes Once It Lands

Maui's Hana Highway is the best-known road on the islands. The whole highway, counting Route 31 past Hana, is 64.4 miles, and the stretch from just east of Kahului to Hana is about 52 miles. It has around 620 curves and 59 bridges, and 46 of those bridges are one lane. Driving it straight through takes about two and a half hours.

On the Big Island, a Rider magazine writer described a loop of about 230 miles starting from Kona, with Route 250 near Waimea for 20 miles of twisties. The writer called the island accessible every day of the year. That piece dates from 2010, so check current road conditions.

Also on the Big Island, Route 11 runs about 30 miles from Hilo to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. If you want the bike there for a specific trip, give the carrier your date and ask for a week of slack.

Military Moves to Oahu

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Schofield Barracks and Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe are the big military installations on Oahu. If you have a report date, get quotes that day, give carriers a pickup window, and ask each whether it offers a military discount.

Hawaii Shipping Challenges and Tips

Hawaii adds ocean rules to the normal ones. A few habits keep it smooth.

Sailing Schedules

A bike that misses a ship waits for the next sailing. Ask each carrier how firm its drop-off appointment is.

Agricultural Cleaning

One major ship line says bikes must be thoroughly washed, with extra attention to the engine, tires, fender wells and undercarriage, and it will not accept a bike that fails the USDA cleaning rules.

Neighbor Islands

Neighbor-island delivery can add cost and time, according to broker pages. Ask each carrier who handles the last leg and whether that is in the quote.

Tip: Wash It Properly

Do the full wash a day or two before the drop-off. Empty the saddlebags, and carry the keys for the ignition and every locked compartment.

Tip: Gather the Paperwork

Shipping from Hawaii with one major ship line needs the original title or notarized copies. If the bike is financed, ask the lender for a notarized letter early.

Tip: Book Before You Move

Quotes are free, and ships do not wait. Start three or four weeks ahead, and read the prep checklist before you finalize anything.

One broker page lists about $900 to $1,800, with Honolulu near $1,000 to $1,500, Hilo $700 to $1,500 and Maui $800 to $2,200. Crating and neighbor-island delivery add more. Compare several real quotes.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle to Hawaii?

The sailing takes about 5 to 7 days. Counting pickup, terminal processing and unloading, one broker page gives 10 to 21 days. Crated service can take longer, so ask each carrier for its estimate.

Which ports do motorcycles use?

One major ship line lists Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle and San Diego on the mainland, and Honolulu, Hilo, Maui and Kauai in Hawaii. Ask each carrier which port is closest to you.

What paperwork do I need to ship a bike from Hawaii?

One ocean carrier asks for photo ID, the original registration and title or notarized copies, a notarized lender letter if the bike is financed, and a signed USDA declaration. Ask your carrier for its own list.

Does the tank need to be full or empty?

One major ship line requires at least a quarter tank. Other carriers and methods may have different rules, so ask for the exact rule in writing.

Can I ship a bike to Kauai or Molokai?

One ship line lists Kauai, Molokai and Lanai among its ports. Tell each carrier your island so the quote includes the last leg.

Is it worth shipping a motorcycle or buying one in Hawaii?

That depends on the bike. For a paid-off bike you love, shipping often makes sense. For an older commuter bike, compare the shipping quotes with the price of a used one on the island.

I'm moving to Oahu on orders. When should I start?

As soon as you have a report date. Give carriers a pickup window, not one day, and ask each whether it offers a military discount.
