Connecticut Motorcycle Shipping

Connecticut is small, and its main roads are I-95 along the shore, with I-84 and I-91 inland. We provide up to ten free quotes from our network of licensed, insured carriers, which saves you time and money. I-95 follows the shore from Greenwich through Stamford, New Haven and New London, while I-91 runs 58 miles from New Haven through Hartford to the Massachusetts line. That layout makes Connecticut motorcycle shipping simple to describe, since most pickup addresses sit close to one of those highways. If you need to ship a motorcycle to or from Connecticut, the real questions are the date and whether you want an open or enclosed trailer. A standard bike on an open trailer is the baseline for every price on this page, and I flag where enclosed, a crate or a trike changes it. Rates below are estimates. Use the quote form at the top of this page or call 1-800-590-6492 at any hour.

Ship a Motorcycle to Connecticut Along the Shore or Up the Valley

Three cities take most deliveries. Stamford sits on the New York side, New Haven is in the middle, and Hartford is up the Connecticut River valley. A driver coming north from Florida or the Carolinas picks up I-95 near New York and reaches Stamford first, then New Haven, then the I-91 split toward Hartford. A Hartford drop may come before or after the shore stops, so ask the carrier where your address falls in the run. The northwest corner, around Danbury and Torrington, is the opposite: it is off the main flow, and a driver may add a day to reach it.

Fairfield County has one local trap. The Merritt Parkway, Route 15, bans commercial vehicles, and its bridges are low. A tractor-trailer will never use it, so a Westport or Trumbull address gets reached from I-95 instead. Expect a call about meeting a few minutes from your street. It's a small annoyance, and it is the same for every carrier.

Older towns bring their own limits: narrow lanes, steep driveways, low branches. A big lot works better, such as a supermarket, a hardware store or a park-and-ride. Someone has to be there to sign the condition report and look the bike over. If it can't be you, name an adult in advance.

Moving in from out of state? The Florida to Connecticut, North Carolina to Connecticut and California to Connecticut lanes are good ones to price first.

Connecticut Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

Since Connecticut is compact, a lot of local lanes land in the 250-mile band. A standard bike on an open trailer runs about $325 to $450 there, and about $300 to $400 for a 100-mile hop like Hartford to Boston. At 1,000 miles the open price is about $500 to $675, and at 2,500 miles about $825 to $1,150.

Enclosed adds roughly 30% to 50%. A crate adds $150 to $400, and a trike or sidecar adds $150 to $300. Heavy touring bikes often add $50 to $100. Longer hauls cost less per mile, which is why a trip to the West Coast does not cost three times a trip to Chicago. The table shows lanes that Connecticut shippers ask about most. Prices assume a standard bike on open transport, and transit time is days on the road after pickup. Allow one to three more days for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run Connecticut lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of Connecticut. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From Connecticut to the South or the West

Fall is the busy season going out. Owners with a second place in Florida send the bike down I-95 in October and November, and the Connecticut to Florida lane fills early. Hartford to Orlando is about 1,185 miles and Stamford to Miami about 1,320, and the quote table gives 3 to 6 days on the road for both.

West is a bigger commitment. New Haven to Los Angeles is about 2,850 miles and 7 to 10 days, and a carrier on that lane may wait a few days to fill a trailer. Give a pickup window, not a single date. If you are sending a bike to California for a move, start asking about three weeks ahead.

Short hauls are cheap and quick. Hartford to Boston is about 100 miles, and Stamford to Philadelphia is about 125. On a lane like Connecticut to Massachusetts, a carrier can often slot your bike in beside a longer load.

Headed to Sturgis? Hartford to Sturgis is about 1,790 miles, 4 to 8 days. Some riders ship the bike and fly out, then ride home. Ask the carrier how long the bike can wait at the other end before storage fees start.

Connecticut Motorcycle Transport Through the I-95 and I-84 Squeeze

I-95 is the shoreline workhorse and also its biggest delay. Trailers sit in the same traffic as everyone else around Stamford, Bridgeport and New Haven, so a driver may tell you a delivery window and not a time. Inland, I-84 crosses from the New York line near Danbury through Waterbury to Hartford, and I-91 takes over from New Haven to Hartford and on to Massachusetts.

I-395 is the road for the eastern end, running north from the New London area toward Massachusetts. That is how a bike gets to or from Norwich without touching the shore.

Pickup points matter more than people think. A shopping lot in Danbury, Waterbury or Meriden sits right on a main road and saves the driver time. Back roads in the Litchfield hills do not. If you live off one, expect the driver to ask for a meeting point on Route 7 or Route 8.

Two pieces of advice. Give the carrier a full street address with the ZIP code and a cross street. And say whether the bike is parked in a garage with a low door, because a dolly or a ramp may be needed to roll it out.

Motorcycle Shipping to Connecticut by Season

Snow and road salt are a fact of life here in winter. Trailers follow the snowbirds: fall brings a rush of bikes going south, and late winter into spring brings the rush coming north.

Fall and winter are often cheaper outside the snowbird lanes. A bike going to Chicago in January can price better than one going to Orlando in November.

Ice and snow can hold a driver back by a day or two. If you must have the bike at the other end by a date, build in slack.

Spring is the other crunch. In March and April the same riders want the bike back, so the lane runs the other way. Booking a month ahead, even with a rough date, helps.

Rallies Within a Day's Drive of Connecticut

Laconia Motorcycle Week is a big rally just north of Connecticut. It started in 1916 at Weirs Beach in New Hampshire, and it is held every June. Plenty of riders just ride up, but a bike sometimes has to get there another way, and that is when a short lane gets booked. The Connecticut to New Hampshire route is a few hours of road.

For rally weeks, prices usually run above normal, and carriers fill early. Book two to three weeks ahead and be ready to be flexible about the day. Riders moving a bike to a summer place on the coast of Maine use the same roads, and the Connecticut to Maine lane is priced like any other northbound haul.

Farther afield, Connecticut bikes head to Daytona in March and to Sturgis in August. Bikes heading south in the fall for Biketoberfest in October travel the same I-95 trailers as the snowbirds.

Navy Orders to and From Groton

Naval Submarine Base New London sits in Groton, across the Thames River from New London. It is the home port for attack submarines and the Navy's submarine school, and Electric Boat's yard is next door. Sailors rotate in and out of the base. If you have orders, ask for quotes the day you have a report date. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount, since some do. Orders change, so also ask about cancellation terms before you pay a deposit.

Connecticut Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Connecticut has three habits that slow a pickup. A few steps on your side get around them.

Low Bridges and the Merritt

Commercial vehicles are barred from the Merritt Parkway and its bridges are low. Fairfield County pickups happen off I-95, not the parkway.

Shoreline Traffic

I-95 between Stamford and New Haven can stall a trailer. A delivery window of a few hours is normal, not a promise of a time.

Narrow Town Streets

A tractor-trailer cannot turn into a steep lane or a tight cul-de-sac. Be ready to meet at a big lot nearby.

Tip: Name a Nearby Big Lot

A supermarket or hardware store lot close to home saves the driver time and often saves you a day. Mention it when you book.

Tip: Lock In October Early

Southbound trailers fill in October and November. If the bike is going to Florida, ask for quotes at least three weeks out.

Tip: Photograph and Clear the Bike

Remove bags and mounts, run the tank near a quarter full and take dated photos on every side. Our prep checklist has the rest.

Connecticut Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

What does it cost to ship a motorcycle from Connecticut to Florida?

Hartford to Orlando is about 1,185 miles, and a standard bike on an open carrier runs about $525 to $750. Enclosed is about $725 to $1,050. Expect 3 to 6 days on the road after pickup. Fall is the busy season on this lane, so book early.

Can a carrier pick up in towns along the Merritt Parkway?

Yes, but not on the parkway. Commercial vehicles are banned there, so the driver uses I-95 and meets you at a lot off a main road. Name the spot when you book.

How long does it take to ship from Connecticut to California?

New Haven to Los Angeles is about 2,850 miles and takes 7 to 10 days on the road. A standard bike on an open carrier runs about $900 to $1,250. Add a few days for pickup scheduling.

Is winter a bad time to ship out of Connecticut?

It is slower, not impossible. Snow can push a pickup back a day or two, but prices are often lower outside the snowbird lanes. Give the carrier a wider pickup window.

Do I need to be at the house for pickup?

You or an adult you name must be there to sign the condition report. The driver will not leave the bike with no one to hand it to, and you will want to look it over.

I am stationed in Groton. How soon should I ask for quotes?

As soon as you have a report or release date. Orders give short windows, and the better pickup slots go first. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount.

Should I pay for enclosed if the bike is going to Florida?

For a stock bike, open usually does the job. Enclosed, which costs roughly 40% more, makes sense for custom paint, a classic or a bike you want out of road spray.

Can I ship a trike or a bike with a sidecar from Connecticut?

Yes. Tell the carrier when you request quotes, since a trike or sidecar adds about $150 to $300. It needs a different spot on the trailer.
