Add I-26 running from Charleston up through Columbia to the Upstate, I-77 coming in from Charlotte and I-20 reaching I-95 at Florence, and the state has a road for almost every lane. Ship a Motorcycle to South Carolina, Coast to Upstate

Tell the carrier which South Carolina you mean. The state has three personalities, and each one pulls trailers in from a different direction. The coast sits on I-95 and I-26. The Midlands, around Columbia, are where I-26, I-20 and I-77 meet. The Upstate, around Greenville and Spartanburg, is on I-85 and the top of I-26.

From the Northeast the usual drop is Myrtle Beach or Charleston. New York to Myrtle Beach typically quotes at $425 to $575 open, with 2 to 5 days on the road. From the Midwest, Chicago to Charleston quotes at $475 to $650 and takes 2 to 5 days. From California, Los Angeles to Charleston runs $825 to $1,150 and 6 to 9 days.

Lowcountry deliveries need some thought. A tractor-trailer may not be able to get near a house in the historic part of the Charleston peninsula, so ask the driver where the bike will come off, and be ready to ride or push it a few blocks. Downtown streets there can also flood. In June 2024 slow storms and a high tide closed several downtown streets for hours, and tides of 8 feet or more have become more frequent.

South Carolina Motorcycle Shipping Rates and Transit Times

Last updated: October 2026

For a standard bike on an open trailer, the ballpark is $375 to $525 at about 500 miles, $500 to $675 at about 1,000 and $725 to $1,000 at about 2,000. Because per-mile cost shrinks on longer runs, Los Angeles to Charleston costs only a few hundred dollars more than Chicago to Charleston, even though it is much farther.

On top of that, enclosed trailers add 30% to 50%. A crate is about $150 to $400 more, a trike or sidecar about $150 to $300 more, and a Gold Wing-size tourer often $50 to $100. The table uses open transport and a standard bike. The days are transit time after pickup, so budget one to three extra for scheduling.

How Getting Quotes Works

You don't have to call company after company. One request goes out to the carriers that run South Carolina lanes, and the offers come back to you.

1. Send one request

Fill out the quote form at the top of this page, or call 1-800-590-6492 any hour of the day. Give us your pickup and delivery cities, the year, make and model of your bike, and the date you want it picked up.

2. Carriers respond

We pass your request to carriers that move motorcycles in and out of South Carolina. You can receive up to ten free quotes without spending hours calling companies one by one.

3. Compare the offers

Look at price, pickup date, and whether the carrier offers open or enclosed transport. You can check any company you're considering on the FMCSA SAFER system.

4. Choose your company

You pick the company you want to work with. Ask that company about its insurance coverage, deposit, and payment terms before you commit.

Shipping a Motorcycle From South Carolina to the Rest of the Map

Pickups on the coast can head up I-95 or take I-26 and I-20 inland. Upstate bikes can use I-85 northeast toward Charlotte, or go southwest toward Atlanta. Columbia and Florence are useful pickup cities because several interstates meet there: I-26, I-20 and I-77 at Columbia, and I-95 and I-20 at Florence.

Columbia to Boston typically quotes at $475 to $650 open and takes 2 to 5 days. Charleston to Chicago comes in at $475 to $650. Greenville to Dallas is quoted at $475 to $650. You can find the matching lane pages for New York, Texas and Ohio.

Short moves are cheap in dollars but not in rate. A Charleston to Greenville quote runs $325 to $450 and takes 1 to 3 days, which works out to more per mile than a longer haul.

For riders going west, Sturgis is a long haul from here. Give the carrier a window and ask about the return trip.

South Carolina Motorcycle Transport on I-95, I-26 and I-77

I-95 runs 198.8 miles through the state, from the Savannah River at the Georgia line to the North Carolina line near Dillon. It passes Hardeeville, Walterboro, Santee and Florence on the way. I-26 meets it at exit 86 near Bowman, and I-20 ends at I-95 in Florence at exit 160, which makes Florence a handy transfer point for carriers.

I-26 runs 221 miles from Charleston through Columbia to Spartanburg, and Upstate loads can come in on it. I-77 runs north from Columbia to the Charlotte area, and I-85 connects Greenville and Spartanburg with Atlanta and Charlotte.

Small towns off the interstates are where things can slow down. A driver will usually stay on the highway and ask you to meet them at a gas station or a big-box lot. Mention a county road or a gravel drive when you request quotes, since it tells the dispatcher to plan for a meetup.

When to Time a Shipment to South Carolina

The big variable is the Atlantic. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the peak on September 10 and most activity from mid-August to mid-October. Hurricanes are a major threat to the Charleston area in summer and early fall. When a storm threatens, the state has reversed I-26 so that every lane runs inland, as it did for Matthew in 2016, Florence in 2018 and Dorian in 2019. A storm can stop pickups on the coast and push a delivery out by days.

Inland the risk is ice. In January 2026 an ice storm hit the Upstate hard, with officials saying it was the worst there since 2005, and the state transportation department worked to clear interstates, ramps and bridges.

If your dates can move, give the carrier a window of several days, and keep your plans loose during hurricane season.

Myrtle Beach Bike Week and the Grand Strand

Myrtle Beach holds two bike rallies a year, a Spring Rally in May and a Fall Rally that runs from late September into October. In 2026 the spring rally ran May 8 to 17 and the fall rally ran September 25 to October 4. The Grand Strand is an arc of beach more than 60 miles long, from Little River to Winyah Bay, with Myrtle Beach as its main city. The Myrtle Beach rally page has more on both.

If you plan to ship a bike there, ask for quotes early and give the carrier a window of a few days. Atlanta to Myrtle Beach quotes at $350 to $475 for an open trailer, and New York to Myrtle Beach at $425 to $575. Ask a hotel before you send a bike to it, since not every hotel will accept one.

If you also want Florida, you can pair the trip with Daytona Bike Week in March or Biketoberfest in October, since South Carolina sits on the way down I-95.

Military Moves Around South Carolina's Bases

Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island is about five miles south of Beaufort, and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort is just northwest of town. Joint Base Lindsey Graham, which was Joint Base Charleston until its renaming in August 2026, is in North Charleston. Fort Jackson is in Columbia, and Shaw Air Force Base is about eight miles west-northwest of Sumter. Orders usually leave a short window, so ask for quotes the day you receive a report date. Ask each carrier whether it offers a military discount. Tell the dispatcher the base name, since pickup spots near a gate differ from a typical street address.

South Carolina Motorcycle Shipping Challenges and Tips

Storms and tight historic streets cause most delays here. A little planning removes most of them.

Hurricane Evacuations

When a hurricane points at the coast, the state can reverse I-26 so all lanes run inland. Pickups on the coast can slip a few days.

Tide and Flooding

Downtown Charleston streets can flood at high tide or in heavy rain. A driver may have to wait or choose a different meeting spot.

Rally Crowds

Myrtle Beach is busy during Spring and Fall Rally weeks. Ask for quotes early, and check that a hotel will accept a bike before you send one.

Tip: Tell Them Which Region

Say Coast, Midlands or Upstate when you request quotes. It changes which highway the carrier uses and when it can pick up.

Tip: Lock In Rally Space Early

For the Spring Rally in May or the Fall Rally, request quotes early and give a window of a few days.

Tip: Keep Salt Off the Bike

Coastal air is hard on chrome and bare metal. Wash and dry the bike before pickup, and take dated photos from every angle. The prep checklist lists the rest.

South Carolina Motorcycle Shipping FAQs

How much does it cost to ship a motorcycle to South Carolina?

Open-trailer quotes for a standard bike are about $375 to $525 for 500 miles, $500 to $675 for 1,000 miles and $725 to $1,000 for 2,000. Adding enclosed raises it roughly 40%. Your price depends on the cities, the bike and the carrier, so compare several quotes before you choose.

How long does it take to ship a motorcycle from New York to Myrtle Beach?

It typically takes 2 to 5 days after the bike is loaded. Give yourself another one to three days for pickup scheduling, and more if you want a particular date during rally season.

Can I ship a bike to Myrtle Beach for the Spring Rally?

Yes. The Spring Rally runs in May. Ask for quotes early, offer a window of a few days, and ask the hotel whether it will accept a bike delivery.

Will a hurricane delay my shipment in South Carolina?

It can, mostly on the coast. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with most activity from mid-August to mid-October. An approaching storm can stop loading, and the state has reversed I-26 to move evacuees inland. Keep your dates loose in that stretch.

Can a truck deliver to downtown Charleston?

Ask the carrier first. A full-size trailer may not be able to reach a house in the historic part of the peninsula. Most drivers unload at a wider street or a nearby lot, and you roll the bike the rest of the way.

Is it cheaper to ship to Greenville or to Charleston?

It depends on the lane, not the city. A bike from the Midwest may cost about the same either way, since the miles are similar. Ask for both and compare.

I am moving to Fort Jackson or Parris Island. How do I book?

Get quotes as soon as your report date is set. Tell the dispatcher the base and the date. Some carriers have military pricing, some do not, so ask each one before you choose.

Should I choose open or enclosed for a coastal delivery?

Open is fine for most riders and costs less. Choose enclosed for custom paint or a vintage bike, since it keeps road spray off the finish. Enclosed costs more.
